Same-sex relations are legal in Cabo Verde, but social attitudes vary and public displays of affection can attract negative attention. Major cities and international tourist areas are usually more welcoming than smaller towns and rural areas.

No — same-sex marriage is not currently recognised in Cabo Verde. Same-sex activity was decriminalized in the 2004 Penal Code, among the earliest in Africa. No same-sex marriage or civil-union recognition, but some protections exist: employment discrimination based on sexual orientation is prohibited (2008 Labour Code) and the Penal Code addresses sexual-orientation hate. Regarded as one of Africa's most LGBTQ+-tolerant societies, with a relaxed atmosphere, especially on Sal and Sao Vicente. A Marcha do Orgulho LGBTIQ+ (Pride) is held in Praia each July.
