We stayed at The Glen Boutique Hotel in Sea Point from 13–15 April as the final stop of our two-week holiday in South Africa. Having spent a day by the pool the week before, we were so taken by the setting that we decided to return and spend our last two nights in Cape Town at the hotel. The property itself is absolutely beautiful and feels like a true oasis in the heart of Sea Point. The hotel is stylish, serene, and thoughtfully designed, with excellent facilities and a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere. The breakfast offering was particularly impressive, and the pool area provides the perfect retreat from the energy of the surrounding neighbourhood. What stood out most throughout our visit was how genuinely warm, friendly, and welcoming the staff were. Unfortunately, that warmth was not always matched by the standard of operational service. On our first pool visit, our drinks order for two gins was taken and written down, yet two whiskies were brought instead. We also requested extra ice with our bottle of water and, despite asking several times, it took far longer than it should have to arrive. The service was always delivered with a smile and genuine good intentions, but the execution was inconsistent. The same pattern continued during our stay. At breakfast on our first morning, both my partner and I ordered omelettes. Although the order was taken correctly, only one arrived after approximately 30 minutes, and by the time the second was served, I had already finished eating. Later that day by the pool, we once again had to request ice multiple times before it arrived. Lunch by the pool was also somewhat underwhelming. The steak strips were excellent, but the Caesar salad was deeply disappointing and felt out of step with the standard the hotel otherwise aspires to. Rather than crisp croutons, it was served with pieces of soggy focaccia that seemed reminiscent of breakfast leftovers, and the iceberg lettuce was clearly past its best. The Glen Boutique Hotel is, without question, a spectacular property and a very special place to stay. It offers beauty, comfort, and a sense of escape that is hard to fault. However, for a hotel of this calibre, the operational service needs to rise to the same level as the warmth of the hospitality. Once those elements are better aligned, the experience would be truly exceptional.

Having just disembarked from a cruise, we were seeking a refined environment to decompress and transition back to a slower pace, and we could not have selected a more perfect establishment. From the moment we arrived, the experience exceeded our highest expectations. The professionalism and warmth of the reception team set an immediate tone of hospitality, while the room service was prompt, seamless, and of the highest quality. The hotel serves as a premier destination for those looking to unwind in an atmosphere that balances sophistication with genuine comfort. It is a rare find to encounter a property where every touchpoint is executed with such care. We left feeling thoroughly rejuvenated and look forward to our next visit.

What truly sets this hotel apart, however, is the incredible atmosphere cultivated by the owner, Mark. It is rare to find a host who is as genuinely charming and super friendly as he is. Mark has a natural talent for making every guest feel like they are the most important person in the building. His warm presence and attentive nature add a personal touch that you simply won't find at larger luxury chains. He is a hands-on host who clearly takes great pride in his work, ensuring that the service is not just professional, but heartfelt. I cannot recommend it highly enough, and I look forward to returning soon!

We had a fantastic stay at The Glen. The house is beautifully decorated with great attention to detail and feels very cozy. The entire team was attentive and friendly, making us feel welcome right away. A real highlight was the food: both breakfast and dinner were absolutely amazing. In the middle of the busy city, this hotel feels like a peaceful little island with a wonderful atmosphere. Highly recommended!

The owner was being incredibly hostile to a guest in the lobby as we were leaving on our first day. Set a very negative tone for our stay at the hotel.

My partner and I were members here for 3 years where we paid R15,000 in membership fees + R4000 in massages + likely another R20,000 in food and beverage. Because I didn’t have my membership card and as these amateurs don’t actually keep a log of who their SEVEN members are, I was told by the extremely rude manager I couldn’t come in without said card, when half of the staff know exactly who I am and this policy had NEVER been applied before. I then proceeded to approach the owner about this issue who was extremely rude, aggressive, told me said membership was “for VIPs only” and that I was somehow “bullying” myself in. He then proceeded to spew nonsense after nonsense at the top of his voice in front of his weary looking staff and hotel guests. In a split second this dementia-afflicted owner’s wild tantrum has lost his business tens of thousands of rands in direct and indirect revenue, and this could not be more appropriate given the circumstances! Avoid if you can!
