East Point Reserve

East Point is a lovely area to visit of you want to get away from the city . Lovely nature, lots of history, beautiful ocean views and the very interesting mangrove Boardwalk.

We visited East Point Reserve a few times as there's lots to see and do in the area. The Mangrove Boardwalk is worth visiting. It's a short, enjoyable walk - just check the tides first. There are lots of scenic spots to stop for photos or to relax and eat lunch. We got some pies from the Military Museum to enjoy at a picnic table on the coast. There are grazing horses and little wallaby mobs at dusk in the large grassy areas by the roadside. The Cyclone Tracy memorial is also here as it was the location where the cyclone first touched Darwin.

Located 8km from CBD, once you drive into the reserve, the Alec Fong Lim Drive takes you all the way to East Point reserve – about 2.5kms where there are walking and bike paths, a lake (Lake Alexander), the Military Museum and old gun turret and bunkers. The lookout provides gorgeous views looking back to Darwin

East Point Reserve is a very pretty and popular scenic beach and park area, today it was very busy with families, fisher people, kayakers and walkers. It is also a beautiful area just to find a nice spot and soak up the views which is where you could find us. The water here is very clear and it is easy to see the rocks underneath the water and it was exciting to spot a couple of turtles swimming between the rocks. Even if you are not lucky enough to spot sea animals the views over to the city with the boats sitting in the harbour, combined with listening to the waves lapping on shore is good enough to calm any busy mind.

This is a very scenic area, we visited looking for a good fishing spot but then ran short of time so I am not sure there is anywhere here for fishing. There are many7 areas for a picnic and to spend a bit of time with young families.

Visited on Monday 1st May. Stopped off there to check out the area, great views of the coastline looking back towards Darwin.

Lovely views over looking the bay, clean area and friendly people. There are restaurants nearby to cater for most people's taste.

Lovely spot to wander and take in the views especially at sunset looking back towards The Museum and Mindil Beach & further a field to the city in the background. In the dry season between May-Oct you also have the markets on aSunday & Thursday afternoon/evening.

My partner and I lived nearby and, every week, would discover new wonders. Besides Lake Alexander, the most conspicuous view you will initially observe is the beach, surrounding Fanny Bay, overlooking the quiet city in the distance. But, East Point is teaming with so many other highlights. One highlight the remarkable path called the Mangrove Boardwalk, in which, at high tide, you are literally standing on water, in the ocean, surrounded by the mangroves, peering into the ocean. Another highlight are the walking tracks, commencing near the renowned restaurant, Pee Wees, that penetrate into the forest, and allow you to observe wallabies, lizards, and huge nests, created by the orange-footed bush fowl. A third highlight, a bit farther from Pee Wees, are the lookouts at Dudley point. You might even find your way to the bottom of these cliffs and dip into the harbour. If you can access an e-scooter or bike, you can even skim around the edge of this pack, watching the waves crashing in the cliff faces that surround the reserve. Right at the end of this road, on the beach, are some remarkable rocks that fill with water and small marine life during high tide.

What to say, it is a reserve after all. We went there for afternoon tea (bring your own) ab=nd found it quite nice and relaxing. A bit dry but what else would you expect in Darwin temperatures. Managed to see some of the wildlife, but our dog was disappointed as she was not allowed to have a run here.
