The County Hotel

The County hotel is a very charming place to stay. It has the most beautiful art deco rooms and accommodating staff. Dinner at the Churchills Bar and restaurant is divine!! You must try the fish, beef Wellington and chocolate dessert!

Our two‑day luxury escape at The County Hotel in Napier was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with genuine warmth and professionalism, thanks especially to Angela, the manager and owner. Her attention to detail, personal care, and passion for hospitality elevated the entire experience. The hotel itself is full of character and charm, but the real highlight was the food. Both breakfast and dinner were outstanding—beautifully prepared, full of flavour, and presented with the same level of care that defines the entire property. Every meal felt like a special occasion. The County Hotel delivers a rare combination of elegance, comfort, and truly memorable service. Angela and her team made our stay unforgettable, and we can’t wait to return.

Wonderful place to stay! Beautiful room, and totally amazing staff! It’s like coming home! Superb location right in the heart of town. This trip, one of many, we discovered the Lisbon Bakery just a block down, and we loved sitting on our private balcony in the early morning, drinking coffee and eating Portuguese Tarts while planning our day in Napier! We will be back, highly recommend!

The County Hotel in Napier is a beautifully established gem, wonderfully positioned in the heart of the city. The service is excellent and genuinely friendly, with Angie managing everything seamlessly and Donny at the front providing a warm, welcoming touch. A truly delightful stay. 😊💓

A superb location, and a beautiful historic building. Add to that a very comfortable room and great hospitality, and they have a winning formula. This is a boutique hotel, that doesn’t have every service (eg: breakfasts) but they are very transparent on that, and helpful about finding those amenities. Angela was a wonderful host! And you feel like you’re living in a 1930s Napier art deco world!

My wife and I just had the pleasure of spending a couple of nights at the County hotel ,and I would like to say it's better than ever. Angela and her team do there best to make your stay memorable and succeed admirably. The hotel looks fresh and is very clean, in our opinion the only place to stay if your lucky enough to get a little time in Napier.

Terrific location in Napier. Walk to the beach and all of the bars and restaurants. Room is good but has a couple of small issues such as the height of the shower room if you are over 6 footwear you will need to duck. And no mirror in the bedroom. Staff were excellent, handy parking over the road and although we did not get the opportunity to use the dining facilities the ambiance was very good.

This is not a 5 star hotel! Rooms are average and the towels are rough and grey, definitely seen better days. Also, we were told the hotel did not do breakfast, but the first morning we were there there was breakfast laid out. When we asked we were told it was only for people on ‘packages’ with no further explanation or option to buy it. Thankfully there are lots of better eating options. Location of the hotel is good but does need smartening up.

Over booked could not get in here

Wow from the moment we stepped inside, we were warmly welcomed and treated like royalty. As we arrived a little earlier than our booking, we made our way up to the library, which was absolutely stunning with its beautiful décor and atmosphere. We were then invited to our table, and the service was flawless from start to finish. The food was spectacular, and every detail was handled with care and professionalism. We were there to celebrate a special friend’s 50th during Art Deco weekend, which made the experience even more memorable. Highly recommend to all an exceptional experience all around!

We enjoyed the most wonderful high tea over the Art Deco weekend. The food was absolutely exceptional — beautifully presented and delicious. The customer service was above and beyond; every staff member made us feel welcomed, looked after, and completely at ease during such a busy weekend, some of us even had our napkins placed over our knees!! The premises themselves are stunning, creating the perfect atmosphere for a relaxed and elegant Deco experience. It was the ideal way to celebrate the weekend, and we left feeling thoroughly spoiled. Highly recommend — we’ll definitely be back, maybe for a night or two next, a staycation!!
