The Dome
Visitors praise The Dome for its elegant, classic style, great location, and beautiful views, with some finding the rooms spacious and well-serviced. However, many reviewers note significant wear and tear throughout the property, with carpets and furnishings appearing tired and dated, and some experiencing issues with the remote check-in process.

We absolutely loved our stay here, yes there is slight wear and tear as the other reviews said, but this does not take away from the charm and character of the building, nor the beautiful view from the room. We were in pacific view room 1 which was a generous size with gorgeous art deco touches. I loved the location and the lovely vibe to the building. Will definitely stay again. While there is no reception on site, the instructions were easy to follow and the staff were only a phone call away.
Hated our stay with dome.. pictures are a false representation of the worn out and old property!! Asked to refund atleast one day but they have a strict non refundable policy which made our anniversary stay really pathetic !! Old and worn out carpets and typically smelly rooms.. no contact person on property which made it super difficult to communicate!
Unfortunately for us this property was just not for us. We’d booked through our travel agent as we were on a month tour of NZ. They recommended it. We saw the published photos of the property and said yes. We were allocated a pacific view room with double occupancy. However the reality turned out to be something different on arrival. It was certainly not what we expected based on the published room photos. We were given what I would describe as the worst room in the property. It did face the ocean. That was the only thing going for it. It was smaller than any other room in the property. Smaller than any 5 star hotel room that I’ve stayed. It was tired, carpet was badly worn at the foot of the bed. 2 basic metal framed chairs to sit in. No decor or colour apart from 1 print of the night sky on the wall. Walls and skirting were marked quite badly. This was not 5 star accommodation. I would say all the common areas were tired as well . Additionally no staff on site. I can’t speak for any other room. Maybe they were fine but ours was not. Our room was pacific view Studio 1. We spoke to our agent and moved to another hotel.
It’s rather tired. Slats falling out of the doors to tv room. Wear and tear in the carpets. No cleaning products for self service. The dome room itself was beautiful but the apartment was lacklustre and needing some tlc.
Note: you need to check in online beforehand as there is no reception here. As a UK traveller, we couldn't do this without Internet but were eventually let in by the faceless voice. Room very good, nice bathroom, free laundry facilities and a little sun terrace we're good facilities. Location very good but parking a bit of a nightmare until you work out the different zones, charges and times. Do visit the Art Deco Trust in the next street and take a tour.
Remote concierge apartment, great location and spacious room. Pictures show a swimming pool, but we couldn't find it nor could other guests.
I recently stayed at The Dome Boutique Apartments and unfortunately, my experience was marred by a serious breach of privacy and security. On one evening, another guest entered my room with a key, mistakenly believing it was their own. This was a deeply unsettling experience, and I immediately reported it to the hotel. The initial response from the hotel was disappointing, as they blamed me for leaving the door unsecured without conducting any investigation. They assured me that no other guests or apartments had access to my room. However, video evidence (which I provided) proved otherwise: the neighboring apartment’s (#2) key was identical, allowing the guest to access my room without any issue. It’s alarming that a fundamental principle of hospitality—ensuring the safety and privacy of guests—was so blatantly overlooked. Despite raising my concerns, the hotel failed to take accountability or offer a satisfactory resolution. I would not recommend staying at this property if privacy and security are priorities for you. The lack of proper investigation and dismissive response have left me with no choice but to leave this review
