InterContinental Taichung

I stayed here during the Lunar New Year this year, and the service was inconsistent. The facilities and systems were both subpar. One staff member didn't understand Chinese at all, and when they saw I couldn't understand, they just stood there dumbfounded. Were they trying to irritate me? Why are Taiwanese workplaces so friendly, willing to hire employees who don't understand Chinese?! In any other country, if you can't speak the local language, you won't even get a job interview! The mainland Chinese staff had an attitude of "You should feel honored to be served by me"?? On the contrary, the VIP reception staff and buffet staff on the first floor were very enthusiastic and respectful. Why should I spend an extra NT$10,000 to upgrade and suffer like this?? From the afternoon onwards, there was a vacuum cleaner running outside the executive suite. I immediately called to say I wanted to sleep, but less than an hour later, the vacuum cleaner was still running in the hallway?! Did they not have time to clean? Across the hall, three families were staying with children playing very loudly. So, the good soundproofing isn't due to the facilities, but rather the guests' lack of manners? There was nothing to eat for breakfast, so they made me go to the buffet on the first floor… even the welcome drinks in the lobby were much better. Also, I tried to fill out a guest review in the system, but it kept crashing and wouldn't submit. This is the first time I've encountered a hotel group that doesn't allow me to fill out a guest review.

Comfort

Checked in on July 31st, stayed two nights, and found the staff very attentive 🫶. The room and bathroom 🛀 were spacious, and the bed was very comfortable. The gym was well-equipped 😎. The parking lot was large. While the breakfast selection wasn't extensive, the food was tasty, but it got quite crowded during breakfast hours...sometimes it took a long time to clear away used trays.

I went there to attend a Chanel skincare event, but from the moment I entered the hotel, all the staff were very friendly and smiling. It felt like a nice and clean hotel!

The staff seemed to be receiving more training, but having so many staff members in the lobby at once was a bit excessive. Breakfast was good value for money.

The staff were friendly and polite, and the surrounding green park area made it a perfect place to spend a whole day. The breakfast service was also excellent, and the buffet was of good quality. I highly recommend ordering the coffee/tea/omelet set separately!

The hotel was great. The swimming pool was spacious. The gym was super professional.
