Mudan (牡丹) is one of the open-air bars ringing the Red House plaza in Ximending, the outdoor gay-bar cluster that is among the largest of its kind in Asia. It is an easygoing, affordable spot for a drink and people-watching on a warm Taipei evening, blending into the row of terraces where much of the neighbourhood's social life spills onto the square.
