We stayed here for a week in May. Mixed feelings about this 4 star hotel, some really positive, others negative. Let’s start with the positives. Staff were great, very friendly and attentive, especially in the restaurant. The location of the hotel was perfect. Only a short bus ride to the old town or a 30-40 minute walk. The room had a good view across the bay to the fortress and old town. The bed was huge and comfortable. It was a small/medium size room, which was just about okay but a little more room would have been nice. In a 4 star hotel I would expect larger rooms. We had good breakfasts, where the staff were great and the food was varied and good. We only used the restaurant once in the evening as it was only open from 7.30pm which is a bit late for us. The buffet food was okay, but I thought it was pricey for what it was, so we ate out in other local restaurants (of which there are many) the rest of the week which was cheaper and better freshly cooked food. Now the negatives. On walking into the room there was a small of drains. We wondered if it was just because it had not been used for a while, so we opened the doors to the small balcony and that helped. The smell did go a little, but it was still there. We soon discovered in the bathroom there was a lose pipe under the basin, it was not connected to the wall, it was loose and simply pulled away when touched. We contacted reception and a maintenance guy came up and put it back in place. He did not speak English so we did not know what he said when he left the room. A short while later a member of staff came and moped up the floor which had water over it from the loose pipe. On contacting reception we were told it would be fixed in the morning. It was, but it still looked a mess and our room still had the smell of drains on occasion, not all of the time, but on two nights especially the smell was bad. I wanted to complain and get moved but as we were halfway through our week, my wife wanted no fuss and said we would live with it. I should have complained and regret I did not. The bath was very narrow, which had no anti slip mat when taking a shower. It also had no grab rail to hold onto when showering which made it challenging. Anyone with balance issues would find it very difficult to take a shower safely. The bathroom generally was very poorly decorated and needs a refit. So overall we were disappointed and would rate this a 2 or 3 star. 4 star for staff, 3 star for general hotel and rooms but only 1 star for bathroom.
The hotel was initially disappointing, due to an underwhelming arrival experience but we grew into it during our week there. We had a large (and expensive!) room on the 4th floor but apart from its size, it offered less than we had hoped for. A large external terrace had sufficient chairs and lounging facilities but offered no shade, so it wasn’t used to its potential. The staff were generally helpful but room service needed to attend to details, such as replenishing consumed items on a daily basis. The breakfasts were very good and the evening optional buffet was enjoyed on 2 of our 3 visits. The choices didn’t always inspire. The location afforded a delightful view of the bay, although was 1.5 miles from the town centre, which would challenge some walkers in the hotter weather. Overall, we enjoyed our week but would probably select a smaller room, which offered much better value without much compromise of facility.
Location the best ,staff excellent but the hotel was tired and in need of refurbishment. Bathroom was tatty and the rooms small.Billed as a 4 star hotel i would rate it as 2 at best .Had a leaky toilet but they did nothing about it still leaking on the day we left.
Amazing hotel with a view and excellent service, kind and attentive staff, fresh and varied buffet If you are looking for a pleasant, enjoyable and quiet vacation, this is the hotel
A very beautiful little castle with a lovely large park surrounding it, offering great views of the city and harbor. Definitely worth a visit.
