Hotel City Maribor

You can see major tourist attractions on foot, and the rooms are stylish and clean. The bedding is comfortable. There is a parking lot in the building's basement, which is convenient for travelers by car, but there is a 10 euro daily parking fee. The breakfast is also excellent.

The hotel is located right in the city center (all sights are within walking distance) and on the Drava River, but also next to a busy bridge, meaning you should only open the windows for ventilation. There's an underground parking garage with charging stations beneath the hotel, and you can take the elevator directly to reception. On the 5th floor, there's a tastefully decorated restaurant with a large terrace overlooking the river, but also the busy bridge. Breakfast and dinner were excellent. The staff speaks very good German and is very friendly and helpful. We had a free upgrade, which, in retrospect, turned out to be a disadvantage. Instead of a double room, we got a superior room, unfortunately on the 4th floor, directly below the restaurant and its terrace, meaning we could hear the beat of the (admittedly good, but that's a matter of personal taste) rather loud music. And the room was VERY noisy; you could hear absolutely everything from the neighbors. Furthermore, a terrible stench constantly wafted from our toilet, which couldn't be remedied even by frequent flushing and running the ventilation. Since we had only booked one night, we accepted it, but mentioned it upon departure, whereupon we were offered free parking in the underground garage and free charging of our car as a small gesture of goodwill.

Overall, the hotel impresses with its very central location and excellent value for money. The rooms are stylishly furnished, very clean, and offer a high level of comfort. The attentive and highly competent staff also deserves special mention. Another plus was the generous and truly delicious breakfast buffet. Unfortunately, during our stay (on a Saturday in May), there was a major disturbance: a wedding party (or something similar) was taking place in the hotel (or adjacent to it). The music was so loud all night until the early hours of the morning that even good earplugs couldn't completely block out the noise. Sleep was virtually impossible. This severely impacted our comfort. Next time, I would choose a hotel in this price range that isn't directly on the Drau promenade.

Rooms are big enough, well equipped and cosily designed.

We were upgraded to one of the newly refurbished second floor rooms, which we thoroughly enjoyed during our stay. The room was tastefully furnished and well thought in design & layout, providing a very comfortable space. The bed and pillows in the room were the most comfortable in our 4 week trip. Underground parking was very convenient. The hotel's location is superb, near to the river front restaurants & old town area. A laundromat is conveniently located in the car park across the small street from the hotel. The roof top restaurant dining was fantastic! The waiter/sommelier was friendly & helpful which made our experience enjoyable. The food was excellent especially the seafood pasta. Breakfast was excellent in terms of choices & food quality was good.
