Nero's Sauna

Nero's Sauna is a purpose-built gay men's sauna on Whitelegge Street in Bury, about 30 minutes north of central Manchester on the Metrolink tram (Bury is the end of the line, and the sauna is a short walk from the interchange). It reopened in September 2024 under new owners and runs as a members-only club: you sign up at reception on your first visit for an annual membership of about £10, then get a towel and a locker key. Facilities as listed in 2025-2026: a traditional dry sauna, a steam room, a jacuzzi, a plunge pool, a cruising maze, private cabins, a group room and a supervised dungeon, plus a lounge with unlimited hot drinks and vending machines rather than a bar. Pass-outs are allowed. Listed hours are daily 11:00-19:00, with a Thursday late opening to midnight (listed as a mixed night) and closure on the last Sunday of each month for private events. Listed prices are £15 standard, £10 from 16:00 and on Wednesdays, and a £35 seven-day pass. Reviewers describe friendly staff, a clean set-up and a mainly local, older crowd; it is smaller and quieter than Basement in the city, and some visitors find it empty outside the Thursday night. Bury is also the nearest gay sauna for Bolton and Salford. The venue's website blocks some overseas connections, so call 07706 197719 before travelling to confirm hours and that day's entry price, and check the time of the last tram back to Manchester (around midnight).
