Dr. Jekyll's

I like Jekyll's and I think they pour a good old fashioned. However, on a recent visit, they refused to provide a glass of tap water with my order, instead saying the only option was to buy bottled water for $2. I dont think this is a good policy and I hope they reconsider. I understand Mile of Music is a busy time, but it's also important to keep your customers hydrated.

★★★★☆ 4 stars – Solid spot, killer cig deals, but things shifted after the old guard left Dr. Jekyll’s on College Ave in downtown Appleton is a reliable go-to for a no-frills night out. The tropical vibe inside (think palm trees and pirate flair mixed with classic bar energy) gives it that quirky charm without trying too hard. Great beer list, solid cocktails, friendly bartenders who keep things moving, and that outdoor patio is money when the weather’s right. It’s got a good mix of locals, some Mile of Music crowds, and enough space to actually hang without feeling crammed. Where it really shines? The cigarette sales. Hands down one of the best deals in the Fox Valley – cheap packs, quick service, and they always seem to have your brand in stock. If you’re a smoker, this place saves you cash and hassle every time. No running around hunting for a deal; just walk in, grab what you need, and you’re set. Big props to Ron, the old owner (and Sue too) – that guy ran a tight ship with real character. Gruff on the surface but one of the best dudes around, always remembered regulars, kept the place feeling like a true neighborhood spot. Under his watch, it had that authentic, straightforward Appleton bar soul. Since he retired and sold it back in 2017, it’s still a good bar – drinks flow, vibes are decent, food options improved a bit – but let’s be real, the energy shifted. It’s gotten a little more… polished, a little more rainbow-flag-on-the-patio, a little heavier on the craft cocktail crowd and less on the rough-around-the-edges regulars who just wanted a beer and a smoke. Not bad, just different – more inclusive in that modern way that sometimes feels like it’s trying to appeal to everyone at once instead of owning its original grit. Still worth hitting up for the cig steals and the patio, and it’s holding strong as a downtown staple. 4 stars because it’s solid, but those glory days under Ron hit different. Grab a pack, a brew, and enjoy it for what it is now. Cheers. 🍻

If I could leave a zero star I would, they would not serve my mom’s boyfriend because he is Hispanic. Absolutely disgusting.

This is the perfect bar. Ben and the staff work tirelessly to make this place welcoming for all. The bartenders are kind, efficient, talented and generous in drink making. You won’t find a better place to start or end your night out. Great outdoor patio area. Get yourself some popcorn and play some darts. VAST spirits selection! You wanna try some Malort? You got it It’s warm and has that welcoming towny feel, but there’s an alternative feel and the crowd is just right. This place attracts the best kind of patrons and it’s the place I recommend first for the perfect Appleton bar.
