Intercontinental Magnificent Mile

I stayed here with my family, and this was honestly one of the worst hotel experiences I've ever had. The only positive thing I can say about this hotel is the location. Other than that, our stay was extremely disappointing. 1. We found cockroaches in our room. There were two dead baby roaches under the sink, two detached legs sitting on top of the sink, and another live roach crawling near the toilet. What makes this even more concerning is that the room had supposedly already been cleaned. The staff did move us to a different room after we reported the issue, which I appreciate it. 2. But the replacement room came with another major problem: noise. We were moved from the 17th floor to the 12th floor, where there was a loud banging sound every few minutes, almost as if someone were repeatedly dropping a barbell. The noise continued late into the night and was loud enough to wake us up and make us jump. We paid around $700 per night for this hotel, and I genuinely do not understand how these conditions are acceptable at that price point. Don't trust the InterContinental brand name alone. This property felt like a completely different hotel operating under the InterContinental label.

We stayed here for two nights in June. It's one of those event weekends and was really expensive, like $500 per night. I have stayed at multiple Intercontinental before and this is definitely the worst. A few things: 1. The room looks a bit old, expected since it's in Chicago downtown. AC is very loud. Water pressure is low and you can barely shower. And the first drops of the water out of the bath are yellowish. Fortunately it became clean after a few seconds. The room is actually fairly spacious for a downtown hotel. However, the layout is a bit weird. There isn't enough sitting space for two, and impossible to eat room service or takeout unless you are willing to sit on the floor. The housekeeping is bad compared to other Intercontinental I stayed at. On day 1 the hand towels were missing. On day 2, the glasses and the bath rug are missing. On the plus side - the beds are comfy. The location is quite convenient as well, walking distance to many attractions.

Perfect downtown location. Mall across the street. 5-10 minute walk from the river, The Bean, many shops and eateries..

Choose a different hotel. Tons of issues with the front desk staff, overbooking, room cancellations and check in issues. Horrible staff.

I wouldn’t stay there again if the rooms are free the staff is rude and they lie to you. They told me everything was booked after canceling my room because my flight got in two hours late and then told me sorry there’s nothing they can do about it.

If you travel for work and your company is paying, make sure you show up during your company hours. This place will lose your authorization form and you will wait for hours. I have been here 3 times and they are 3 out of 3 for not having it when it was sent. This last time I verified they had it before arriving and when I got there, they did not have it! Getting a receipt is also one of the most painful experience you can have. For what they charge and what the level of service is, it is not worth it.
