Magnuson Hotel Jacksonville Downtown

Housekeeping is very diligent and the hotel staff is excellent. David was very amiable and helpful. The manager was very nice and the staff do a lot to make guests welcome.

The room smelled strongly of cigarettes. It was poorly maintained. There were many cockroaches in the room.

About what youd expect.

Roaches issues other than that it was okay

Room floor was very dirty. Saw that on the bottom of my socks. Didn't dare walk on it barefooted. Water from sink smelled like it was filtered through a sewerage plant, so I bought bottled water for drinking. Handle from the sink was loose, so you have to play with it a little to get your cold, hot, or warm water preference. One side of my bed sunk down like support was gone. Rust on front door and top of microwave (not inside it). Non-smoking room smelled like it had been smoked in. Area around steps leading to 2nd floor smelled like a skunk had sprayed it glands. That smell never went away during my 4-night stay. Outside trash can was overflowing. Steps leading to 2nd floor are deteriorating. Outside lighting is low, so you have to be careful even walking up & down the stairs in the dark. Towels & washcloths are made of material that doesn't absorb water very well requiring a lot of extra wiping just to get dry after a shower. Hair dryer puts out too little air to dry hair. (Glad I had brought my own.) Mat in tub looks like it should have been replaced years ago. Stains in the aging tub itself. Hot & cold water in tub turn on in opposite directions. The two light switches outside the bathroom door were completely opposite of what they should be. The switch closest to the bathroom turns on the sink light, and the one that should turn on the sink light turns on the bathroom light. Turning the lights on means pushing the switches down, and turning them off means pushing the switches up. Coffee maker in the room had old coffee grounds in it. Bathroom door is decaying. Room access card expired each day, so I needed to go to front desk each day to have it reset to get in my room (and was told this was going on with several other guests). The small dining area is locked around the clock except for the 3 hours per day when a very small selection breakfast is served. (What limited food & beverages were available for breakfast were fine.) Hotel is located in area right next to a business road, and that road is right next to the I95 interstate entrance so traffic is noisy. (I brought a fan for nighttime white noise, so that drowned out the noise pretty well.) Limited parking in front of hotel, but plenty in back. However, getting to the rear parking means going through a narrow driveway that only fits one vehicle in one direction at the same time. Categorizing this as a 2-star hotel is an insult to the number 2. On the positive side, the daily price was better than I could find anywhere nearby. Very convenient to downtown in one direction and business district in the other.

Place needs some work. Loud at 3am . There was security but once it got to be the wee hours they seemed to disappear

It was the most nasty trashes motel I’ve ever stayed in. I would never book there again. When I first got there, they booked me into a same room with somebody else then they had to switch me to a different room. It had no lights. It had no toilet paper. It had nothing in the room And my third room that they put me in there was only two working lights. It was just a shitty stay

I stayed one night and the room was fine and reasonable for the price. The folks working the front desk were great and it seems like they are trying to improve things.

Very great customer service, clean hotel, and good area.

This place was great! The breakfast was great loved the waffles! The staff was very polite. I will come back here when im intown.

It smells yucky.

Worst cat fish of my life. Most of the photos are not of the hotel. This place is in significantly worse shape then advertised. My shower was full of mold, i found mold in my apple juice at breakfast. Pretty sure i need a tetanus shot after staying there. The only plus sides were that the staff was lovely. Both women i interacted with at the front desk were very sweet. And the bar next door to the hotel is a hidden gem, if im ever in the city again i will stop there for food and drinks.

You get what you pay for. Dirty rooms, junkies everywhere totally felt unsafe and on edge. After check out the front desk called me and told me I was banned from renting because I had a service dog with me.
