Damon Wayans

Damon Wayans is a multi-talented American actor, comedian, writer,
and producer, born on September 4, 1960, in New York City. Known
worldwide for his fearless, no-holds-barred comedic style, Wayans has
built a legacy as one of the most influential figures in modern comedy.
He
is perhaps best remembered for his three seasons as a writer and
co-star on the Emmy Award\ winning series In Living Color. During his
time on the show, Wayans created unforgettable characters such as “Homey
D Clown,” “Handiman,” and the flamboyant film critic Blaine from “Men
on Film,” all of which became cultural icons. His sharp writing earned
him two individual Emmy nominations.
Wayans has also enjoyed
tremendous success in stand-up comedy. After beginning his career in
1982 on the comedy club circuit, he gained national attention as a
featured player on Saturday Night Live. He later starred in critically
acclaimed HBO specials including One Night Stand, The Last Stand, and Still Standing,
further cementing his reputation as a powerhouse performer. His career
spans a wide range of roles across film and television. On the small
screen, he starred in the FOX adaptation of Lethal Weapon and appeared
in 413 Hope Street, which earned a People’s Choice Award nomination. He also served as executive producer of the animatedseries Waynehead.
On the big screen, Wayans has delivered memorable performances in films such as Bamboozled, Harlem Aria, Major Payne, Blankman, and Mo’ Money. His extensive filmography also includes The Great White Hype, Celtic Pride, The Last Boy Scout, Earth Girls Are Easy, I’m Gonna Git You Sucka, Colors, Punchline, Hollywood Shuffle, Roxanne, and Beverly Hills Cop, among many others.
In
2006, Wayans created, executive produced, and starred in the sketch
series The Underground. Two years later, he launched WayOutTV, a digital
platform he described as “In Living Color 2.0,” designed to bring
sketch comedy into the online space with interactive audience
engagement.
Beyond comedy and acting, Wayans is also a The New York Times bestselling author. His 1999 book Bootleg
humorously explores family, marriage, and politics, quickly landing on
the bestseller list. He later revealed a more introspective side with
his novel Red Hats in 2010. In March 2024, he released two novellas: Super Niger: Yo, I Got Superpowers!—a humorous and heartfelt story about an ordinary man rising to heroism—and Welcome to Wastebook,
a satirical comedy filled with sharp wit and colorful characters.Wayans
also found major success on television with the hit ABC sitcom My Wife
and Kids, which he co-created, executive produced, and starred in. The
show ran for five seasons and earned multiple awards, including the 2002
People’s Choice Award for Favorite New Television Comedy Series, as
well as Favorite Male Performer for Wayans’ role as Michael Kyle. The
series remains popular in syndication and continues to stream on
platforms like Hulu and Netflix.
