The honest summary: Taipei's gay bars cluster around the Red House in Ximending, with a few indoor spots within a ten-minute walk. You'll find a proper gay dance club, a leather bar, a drag cabaret, and a lesbian scene with its own bars. Drinks cost NT$200-350, and nobody's judging your look at the door. Fridays and Saturdays are the nights to go.

The Red House terraces (Ximending)

Lane 10 of Chengdu Road wraps around the back of the Red House theatre, where the bars share a big open-air plaza of tables. It fills up from around 20:00 and stays busy past 01:00 on weekends. The crowd's mostly local men of all ages, with tourists pouring in during Pride week.

    • Café Dalida, No. 51, is named after the singer and hosts drag shows on weekends. It's open nightly from about 19:30 to 02:00 (Instagram @cafedalidataipei).
    • Mudan, Nos. 43-45, claims to be the oldest bar on the plaza, with a big semi-open terrace and snacks. It opens at 17:00 and stays open till 02:00 on weekends.
    • Casa, No. 57, has Western-style outdoor seating, making it a good first stop.
    • G2 Paradise, No. 39, is a bear and chubby bar, open from 18:00 to 01:00.
    • The Garden is a terrace bar with a mostly local crowd.

Google lists newer bars on and near the plaza, including CYUN, Togayther, and BITCH on Kunming Street. Since they're not confirmed in Taiwanese guides, consider them a night-out discovery.

    Indoor bars nearby

    • Hero Bar (2F-4F, 15-2 Kunming St) has been around since August 2016, with a dance floor and themed party nights. It's closed on Mondays.
    • Hunt (7 Guiyang St Sec 2) is a basement club known for its underwear and wrestling theme nights. It's closed on Tuesdays.
    • Locker Room (34 Neijiang St) has three floors with a gym-locker theme, drag shows on 2F, and shower shows on 3F. It's open Wednesday to Sunday, 21:00-02:00.
    • Bear Junkies (2F, 192 Kunming St) is a bear bar run by a couple that also serves brunch. It's closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
    • Commander D. (36 Kaifeng St Sec 2) is the leather and fetish bar, with uniform nights and a darkroom. It's open Tuesday to Sunday, 20:00-02:00. Note that it was raided by police on 3 October 2026 (UDN, CNA), so check if it's open before heading out.
    • COSMA (4 Lane 120, Wuchang St Sec 2) is a club that leans queer, with house and circuit parties like Diva Night and HORNEMA. It's open Thursday to Sunday until about 05:00, with entry around NT$500.

    Clubs and late nights

G Star Club (B1, 23 Longjiang Rd, Zhongshan) is the city's main gay club, featuring drag, go-go dancers, and K-pop segments. It's open Wednesday to Sunday until 05:00 (Instagram @gstartaipei). Waroom on Linsen North Road is open 24 hours, making it the after-hours spot. Triangle at Expo Park (MAJI) is still listed, but the park's food zone has had to close at 22:00 on most nights since February 2025 (CNA), so check its Facebook page first.

    Lesbian and women's bars

Taipei has several women-centred bars, a rarity in Asia. TABOO (B1, 90 Jianguo N Rd Sec 2) is the longest-running lesbian club, with all-you-can-drink entry around NT$500-800, K-pop, and theme nights. It's open late, till 04:00 on weekends. Wonder Bar & Lounge (183 Fuxing N Rd) opened in 2018 and is run by women. It's a quieter cocktail lounge, closed on Mondays. Incoming Bar (69 Dunhua S Rd Sec 1) is a small women-friendly bar with karaoke.

    East District and Xinyi

Fairy Taipei (3F, 2 Lane 49, Zhongxiao E Rd Sec 4, Da'an) draws a younger crowd with its plant-filled décor and party nights like "No Pants Day". It's in the East District, not near the Red House, despite what older lists say. Belle's in Taipei (7F, ATT 4 FUN, 12 Songshou Rd) is a drag cabaret built around a carousel bar, offering a dressier night out with a mixed crowd. It's open Wednesday to Sunday from 22:00.

    Closed but still listed elsewhere

    • Funky closed on 24 December 2017.
    • Abrazo closed on 31 December 2024 (UDN).
    • Goldfish is marked closed by Travel Gay.
    • WERK! at Triangle ended in 2022.
    • Secret Garden, Fourplay, Ganymede, Bacio (Red House) are listed as closed by nomadicboys in 2026.

    Practical tips

    • Ximen MRT (Blue and Green lines), exit 1, puts you at the Red House. The MRT stops around midnight, but taxis are cheap.
    • The drinking age is 18. Bigger clubs check ID, so bring your passport or a photo of it.
    • Many small bars prefer cash, while clubs take cards.
    • Pride week (the last week of October) is the busiest time of the year. Expect queues at G Star and on the plaza.
