About this place Baha Mar

Baha Mar is a large resort complex on Cable Beach, west of downtown Nassau. It contains several separately branded hotels, a casino, many restaurants and pools, and the Baha Bay waterpark. It's a mainstream gay-friendly resort, not a gay venue, and it holds a 4.4 rating from over 7,000 Google reviews. When you book, check which of the hotels you're actually in, because prices and atmosphere vary a lot between them. Same-sex relations are legal in the Bahamas, but there's no legal recognition of same-sex couples and no real gay scene. Inside the resort, couples generally report no problems.

If you are a woman don’t come here. They put the temperature inside the resort and casino for men. Couldn’t even wear my cute outfit in the middle of the Bahamas cause it was 60 degrees everywhere. Plan for parkas and fur coats. Mind you it’s the beginning of September. Good luck out there

We stayed at Baha Mar for 12 nights in early August 2026 and left with very mixed feelings. The property itself is beautiful. The beach and water were clean, the water park was enjoyable, and breakfast offered a great selection with consistently friendly service. We also had positive experiences with the staff at the food trucks and Pizza Lab. Unfortunately, most other aspects of our stay did not meet expectations—especially considering the price. Many staff members seemed unhappy to be there, unhelpful, and occasionally outright rude. Service also felt inconsistent. For example, we were charged different amounts for the exact same tennis court and equipment rental on two separate occasions. Check-in was especially frustrating. Despite being Hyatt Globalists, notifying the hotel of our early arrival, and traveling with two younger children, we waited over three hours to get a room. We were told early check-in could not be granted, but heard there were rooms available, only on higher floors and I guess we did not qualify for them, but they were being offered to other guests, not us. The check-in staff showed no understanding or willingness to help and were simply rude. Check-out felt equally cold and indifferent. We also discovered more than $700 in restaurant charges on our bill from a restaurant we had never visited. We were required to pay the amount at check out, and wait till the hotel investigated, and no one followed up with us afterward. Thankfully, the charge was credited about a week later, but the way it was handled was very disappointing. Everything on the property is extremely overpriced for the quality offered—a single banana costs $5. Every bill/purchase receipt also includes 25% in additional charges: a 15% service fee plus 10% tax. The food was generally very average, small portions, while the room-service food was particularly poor. The beach and pools were extremely overcrowded during our stay. The casino occupies much of the first floor and lobby area, making it impossible to avoid when entering or leaving the main building. Walking through the casino while wet, sandy, and wrapped in towels—next to guests dressed for an evening out and sipping cocktails—felt awkward and poorly planned for a family resort. The loud rooftop nightclub music continued late into the evening almost every night, which was another reason the hotel did not feel well suited to families with younger children. Although Baha Mar is visually impressive and has some enjoyable amenities, the service, pricing, crowds, noise, and overall atmosphere outweighed the positives for us. Based on our experience, we would not recommend it as a family vacation destination and would not return.
