Amrit on Oranienstraße is the original branch of a small Berlin Indian chain, open in Kreuzberg since 1996. It's a gay-friendly mainstream restaurant, not a gay venue. Expect large portions, fresh ingredients and cheap lunch deals. It's busy and loud rather than refined, and the reviews are very strong (4.7 from more than 4,000). It's open from 11:30 to midnight, and until 01:00 on Fridays and Saturdays, which makes it useful before a night out around Kottbusser Tor, where the area's gay and queer bars are. There's another branch on Winterfeldtstraße in Schöneberg, near Nollendorfplatz.

I ordered food from you this evening, June 13th, and there were hairs in two out of three dishes! We threw away the third one, just like the other two, because it's simply disgusting. Work on your hygiene! We won't be ordering from you again!

The best Indian restaurant we have ever been to. Fell upon it by accident and so happy we did! I tried the Yellow Daal Tadka and it was so tasty and flavourful. Delicious food and cocktails too! The staff were all very friendly, special call out to Harpreet who was especially lovely. Thank you for an amazing evening, we’ll be back next time we’re in Berlin!
