The honest summary: Lausanne has a small gay scene that fits in a few streets. There's one old-school gay bar, one women-leaning bar, one big gay sauna and a Sunday gay party that has outlived most of the bars. It's a good weekend if you know where to look. Don't expect a gay district. Geneva is 35 to 45 minutes away by train if you want more.

The scene in 2026

Lausanne is the capital of the canton of Vaud, with about 151,000 residents (city figures, end of 2025) and a big student population from UNIL and EPFL. Gay nightlife here shrank over the last decade. The 43&10 club on Rue de Bourg closed around 2015, and GT's Bar on Avenue de Tivoli reopened in 2024 as Opéra 5, a general karaoke bar-restaurant. What remains is spread over three small areas, all walkable from the station.

Bars

    • Le Saxo, Rue de la Grotte 3, below Saint-François. The oldest gay bar still open in the city and very much a regulars' place. Karaoke draws the crowd on Friday and Saturday. Travel Gay and misterb&b list it as open Wednesday to Sunday from 18:00. Its old website is offline, so call 021 323 46 83 if you're going midweek.
    • Pin Up Bar, Rue Marterey 31. Time Out Switzerland describes it as a mixed lesbian and gay bar, open since 2011. It leans towards women. Wednesday is oyster night. It has no website, and opening times vary, so call ahead.
    • Opéra 5, Avenue de Tivoli 5. This was GT's Bar, the scene's main address for years. Since autumn 2024 it has been a karaoke bar-restaurant with a basement room for comedy and private parties. misterb&b still lists it, but it no longer markets itself as gay, so expect a mixed, friendly crowd. Open Wednesday to Sunday from 17:00.
    • MilkShake, Ruelle du Flon 4. A cocktail and brunch bar with a queer following. 360.ch listed a drag brunch there in 2024. It's friendly rather than a gay bar.

    Parties

For a night out, the parties matter more than the bars. Gameboy, "the MAD gay party", runs on Sunday nights at MAD, the big club in the Flon. Lausanne Tourisme listed it on 1 November 2026, and it adds extra dates before public holidays. Other nights move between venues. Querelle (house and techno) turns up at Folklor Club on Place de la Riponne a few times a year. The lesbian and queer collective ParaDykes holds its club nights at Le Romandie, with the next one on 19 December 2026. Le Romandie also hosted the queer prom Grand Méchant Bal on 31 October 2026. The 360.ch agenda and our events page are the best way to see what's on.

    Sauna

Pink Beach, Avenue de Tivoli 7-9, is a short walk below the station. Travel Gay calls it the largest gay sauna in Switzerland, at about 1,650 m². It has a steam bath, Finnish sauna, maze, fetish rooms, cinema and bar. It opens at noon on weekdays and closes at 23:00 Monday to Thursday. At the weekend it runs non-stop from Saturday noon to Sunday 23:00. Theme nights include X-perience, Dark Station, Grizzly for bears, and No Limit. It's now the only gay sauna in town (see "Closed or changed" below).

    Cruising

Sex between men is legal in Switzerland, but sex in a public place isn't. Parc du Denantou by the lake in Ouchy has a cruising reputation, but we couldn't confirm it with any current independent source. It's a family park by day. The legal options are the sauna and the Sunday party.

    Community and health

    • VoQueer (formerly VoGay, founded 1996, renamed 2024), Rue Pépinet 1. Vaud's main LGBTIQ+ association, with youth groups, counselling and the Frontrunners running group.
    • Association Lilith, Route Aloys-Fauquez 60. A lesbian and feminist association since 1994, running apéros, talks and queer parties. It celebrated its anniversary at the Casino de Montbenon on 13 November 2026.
    • Fondation Agnodice, Rue Centrale 23. Supports trans and gender-diverse young people and their families. Open Wednesday to Friday, 9:00 to 17:00.
    • Checkpoint Vaud, Rue Saint-Pierre 2, run by PROFA. HIV and STI testing, PrEP and counselling for gay and bi men and trans people.
    • Aquarius Lausanne. An LGBTIQ+ swim club since 1995, training at Grand-Vennes.

    Neighbourhoods

There's no gay village. Avenue de Tivoli, below the station towards Sévelin, has Pink Beach and Opéra 5 within a few doors of each other. The Flon, the old warehouse district, has MAD and most of the mainstream nightlife. Saint-François and the Cité slopes have Le Saxo and Pin Up. All three are within 15 minutes' walk, but Lausanne is steep. The M2 metro climbs from Ouchy through the station and the Flon, which saves the legs.

    Pride and events

Lausanne hosted Pride Romande, the Pride of French-speaking Switzerland that moves between cities, on 26 and 27 June 2026. It was the city's first in about 20 years. The march on Saturday 27 June ran from Pont Bessières to the Pride village in Parc de Milan, under the slogan "Le droit d'être soi". Press reports said several thousand people took part, with no official count. The next edition returns to Geneva in 2027 (see Geneva Pride). Its dates were not confirmed at the time of writing. Geneva's Lake Parade is a techno street party, not a Pride. Lausanne has no Pride of its own in the years when Pride Romande is elsewhere.

Closed or changed: gone but still Googled

    • GT's Bar / Backstage (Avenue de Tivoli 5): became Opéra 5 in 2024 and no longer markets itself as gay.
    • Trafick (Avenue de Tivoli 22): older guides list it as a gay cruise club. Its own site now presents it as a mixed swingers and BDSM club with no men-only nights, so we've removed it.
    • Top Club sauna (Rue de Bellefontaine 6): a gay sauna since 1984. Google now marks it permanently closed and its website is dead.
    • 43&10 (Rue de Bourg 43): the last dedicated gay club, closed around 2015. The Rockies, now at that address, isn't a gay bar.
    • Sauna New Relax (Galeries Saint-François): sometimes listed as gay, but its own site says it's mixed, for men, women and couples.
    • Bar Tabac: an ordinary beer café, not a gay bar, despite older listings (including ours).

    Practical tips

    • Geneva Airport (GVA) has direct trains to Lausanne in about 45 minutes. Hotel guests get a free Lausanne Transport Card for buses and the metro.
    • Bars often stay closed on Monday and Tuesday, and small venues change hours without notice. Phone before a weeknight trip.
    • Switzerland is expensive and prices are in Swiss francs, not euros. Cards are accepted almost everywhere, but carry a little cash for small bars.
    • For a bigger night, Geneva has more bars, Bains de l'Est sauna and the Cruising Canyon club, 35 to 45 minutes away by train. See our Geneva guide.

    A few words in French

    • Un bar gay / un bar queer: a gay bar / a queer bar
    • Une soirée: a party night
    • Fiertés / la Pride: Pride
    • Santé sexuelle: sexual health
    • Santé!: cheers
