What reviewers say

Visitors praise MAD Club for its multiple rooms offering different music and atmospheres, making it a good place to dance and party with impressive DJ lineups. However, a significant number of reviews express serious concerns about safety, with multiple accounts of staff rudeness, lack of assistance during incidents, and poor crowd management leading to an oppressive and unpleasant experience.

About this place MAD Club Lausanne

MAD — short for Moulin à Danses — is a Lausanne institution and one of the best-known clubs in Switzerland. It has been running for close to forty years in the Quartier du Flon, the old warehouse district that is the heart of Lausanne nightlife, inside a former locksmith's workshop that became a concert hall and then the multi-floor club it is today. For queer visitors, the night that matters is Sunday. MAD's Sunday gay tea dance, GameBoy, is the city's long-standing gay party, joined every so often by a Bordello night on the Sundays before a public holiday. So if you are in Lausanne on a Sunday, this is the room to be in. The rest of the week MAD runs as a mainstream club with, by most accounts, the strongest DJ programme in the city and a genuinely good sound-and-design setup. Be realistic about the reviews — it sits around 4.1 across several thousand of them. People rate the music, the line-ups and the space highly, while the recurring gripes are that it gets very busy on the big nights and that drinks are Lausanne-priced, which is to say not cheap. It is a large, popular club, so expect a queue and a crowd when the programme is good. Getting there is straightforward: the Flon is central and has its own metro stop (Lausanne-Flon). Check the current programme, and Sunday's GameBoy line-up, on the official site mad.club before you go.

If you value your safety and well-being, I strongly advise against this establishment. In case of any problems, don't count on the staff, security, or management to help you. I was personally assaulted by a bartender (Eud*el*) following a simple misunderstanding. I was subjected to insults, spitting in the face, and physical violence, without having behaved aggressively in the slightest. Despite police intervention and the presence of concrete evidence against her, the management of MAD refused to take the necessary measures and fire her. Given my experience and recent concerns about safety in some nightclubs, I believe that MAD should undergo a thorough inspection by the relevant authorities to verify compliance with safety procedures, incident management, and customer protection. For my part, I absolutely cannot recommend this establishment.

Someone slipped drugs into my drink half a second after the bartender handed it to me. When I told him about the problem and asked if he could change it, he told me, word for word, "You drink it or you buy another one," in a curt and nasty tone. Outraged by this completely stupid response, I spilled my 18-euro vodka Red Bull all over the bar's till and never went back. There was also violence from security towards my mother (53 years old), who was looking for a friend and came home with a bruise around her forearm. And I've had a lot of other very negative feedback. Igor, your club isn't safe and you're doing nothing about it? You're a disgrace, man. Honestly, do something other than count your money and ignore people's safety!

This isn't a place to eat, but to dance. And with 4 different rooms spread over 5 floors, there's almost something for everyone.
