Loved the hotel which we stayed for only one night. Good location, clean comfortable compact room lovely bed linen and fluffy white towels. Good shower with amazing toiletries. Bar area nice breakfast good quality food pleasant ambiance. Would be helpful to have breakfast times available on the tv screen in the room and didn’t manage to work out how to switch on the modern bedside lights. Loved the discrete under bed lighting so helpful during the night. Overall a nice modern hotel highly recommended
We have stayed a couple of times at The Moxy and been very pleased with the overall experience. It is ideally located to walk up to the Hoe and seaside and also into town. There is a car park available at a cost of 10 GBP per 24 hours just outside which is ideal, but often very full, however we have always found a space. The rooms and bathroom are both modern in appearance and very clean. The hotel has a modern funky vibe and is perfect for you to also bring dogs if you so wish.
We loved staying here, I can’t fault it at all. The room was comfortable and clean, the location is good, the staff friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed the wonderful breakfast buffet.
The first bit is one for the owners, this hotel is like GCHQ. Trying to follow Google’s walking directions is hopeless as the only exterior evidence that this is a hotel is a tiny sign facing onto the side road opposite a tyre fitters. That said the staff were lovely, nothing was a problem. The room was compact but didn’t feel small. I loved the light under the bed that came on if you got up in the night. My wife appreciated the walk in shower which avoided her having to lean on me to get over the side of a bath tub as we have in many more expensive properties. My only complaint about the room is please put a bigger stock of tea, coffee and milk in the room. The reception staff kindly gave me some extras.
This hotel isn’t for budget travellers! I stayed one night and it was 3 times as much as a premier inn, which has the same facilities. The moxy just has a more nightclubby theme. The mattress was comfy enough but there was an annoying electrical hum which went on all night. I didn’t like the fact the tv was turned on entering the room, I had thought I was entering an occupied room. Upon checking out the male member of staff just took my card out of my hand and turned away to do something else.
We always stay here as convenient seeing our son at uni but on this occasion was a little underwhelmed. Parking I know it's separate to hotel as privately owned but it was a nightmare, bays not marked so people taking up 2 spaces and cars parking on curbs etc... The room not as clean as normal and no tissues and not enough coffee had to track down housekeeping to replenish. When checking out there was a vibe just not pleasant.. Not our usual stay
We wanted a budget hotel for a one night stay in Plymouth. It was concerning that the parking as the information on the website was absent. When I rang the telephone number, I ended up speaking to someone in Manila who struggled to speak English and was clearly incapable of assisting. Eventually, I found information on line that the hotel has 40 car parking spaces and that there is a public car park in Brunel Way which is available when full. This where we ultimately left the car, having removed everything of value from inside. The Brunel Way car park is 2 mins walk from the hotel and has CCTV. Unfortunately, you cannot use this without the Ringo App and the fact the lighting is broken means that the images from the CCTV are useless. I did not realise that the car park was largely empty when I bought my ticket as a consequence of the locals being savvy enough to avoid this area. The stay was ok safe for the fact that the air conditioning plant made a noise throughout the night. The food was ok albeit bit over priced for what was served up. It was ok for a budget price. We found that the bathroom could also not be locked. The main problem for me was that my car was broken into overnight and all my birdwatching books / notes were stolen. These were stored in a bag that I hide in the car. This info was only of value for me as 10 years worth of notes were taken plus my birdwatching bag with books in side. The window was smashed. I reported this to the hotel and the receptionist had no interest in this whatsoever. I have subsequently found that this area has a bad reputation for car thefts even though the car park has CCTV. This is probably because the lighting does not work. It is frequented by drug addicts. The hotel is allegedly aware of this problem as are the police. I was really annoyed by the reaction of the hotel staff and even more so by the fact that the Brunel Way car park is apparently notorious for car break ins. The attitude of the staff was appalling as they did not car about the break in. I would rate that hotel as 5/10 as it is is modern and adequate but think that the issue with crime in this part of Plymouth and the presence of drug addicts in the Brunel Way car park means that the hotel should be avoided. The hotel is ok for pedestrians but it is unwise to park cars in either the Brunel Way or hotel car parks as neither are safe. If you are taking a car, it will be necessary to use another hotel and I would recommend that the Plymouth Moxy should be avoided altogether. I would suggest finding an alternative hotel due to this problem and the indifferent attitude of the staff. Very disappointed.
We did not stay in the hotel so cannot comment on the facilities. However, the staff were incredibly kind. After an evening out to see a music event we were unable to get to our car as we didn’t check what time the car parked locked (stupid mistake on our part). After walking in the rain for an hour and a half asking hotels if we could sit in the foyer and being declined, the staff welcomed us in happy for us to sit and wait in the warm and dry until we could go back to the car at 6am. They offered us complimentary hot drinks as well as we were very cold. We are so appreciative of the night staff we met. Would definitely consider booking a night here purely because of the kindness we received.
A different take on a traditional hotel. Modern and nice interior features. 1st impressions were good. Greeted on arrival. Check in was smooth and easy. Advised on how to use the lift with key card and breakfast. Offered an option to dine in and a welcome drink. Room was generally clean. We found a long hair in the shower and the bathroom generally smelt of sewage but felt it was coming from the drains. As soon as you ran some water it subsided and with the the door shut you couldn’t smell it in the rest of the room. Welcome message on the TV was a nice touch and the atmosphere of the room was good. Bed was for us way too soft. This did affect our general sleep. Breakfast was efficient and was well done. Overall we felt it was good value and would stay at the Moxy again. The surrounding area of the hotel aren’t the best but this isn’t the hotels fault. Staff were also great.
A friend and I stayed here for the Plymouth fireworks and found it to be an ideal hotel for a few days in the city. The room was smaller than some but had clever storage on the walls to make up for the lack of drawers, decent ensuite shower room and comfortable beds. The hotel decor was cheerful, the complementary cocktail on arrival was welcome in the pleasant bar area. Location is superb, only a few minutes walk from city centre or Plymouth Hoe and seafront, no need to get the car from its car park. Some nice restaurants and bistros nearby, although the hotel bar does food if required. Car park is small and we didn't get in, but there's a larger public car park nearby that they directed us to (only a few minutes walk). I fully hope to return to this hotel next year, so much nicer than a "lodge" hotel and such a great location.
