The honest summary: Mossoró is a hot, inland oil-and-salt city in western Rio Grande do Norte, and it has no gay bar, no gay club and no gay sauna that we could confirm in October 2026. No international gay guide lists a single venue here, and we didn't find one in local news either. What the city does have is a Pride parade that came back in November 2025 after almost 15 years, a university-run LGBTI+ health clinic that was the first of its kind in the state, and mainstream bars along the Corredor Cultural where queer nights happen now and then. Come for Mossoró Cidade Junina in June, the Auto da Liberdade in September and the salt flats on the way to the coast. For an actual gay night out, Natal is about 270 km east by road and Fortaleza about 210 km north-west.
Legal in one line: Same-sex marriage has been legal across Brazil since CNJ Resolution 175 of May 2013, and since the Supreme Court ruling of 13 June 2019 homophobia and transphobia are punished under the national racism law. Rio Grande do Norte has penalised anti-gay discrimination since Law 9.036 of 2007, and Law 10.761 of 2020 makes bars, clubs, schools and motels display a sign saying that discrimination by sexual orientation or gender identity is illegal, with a R$1,000 fine for each breach.
There's no bar in Mossoró that calls itself gay or LGBTQ+. We checked the gay directories, the Andapride map and local news, and every "bar gay em Mossoró" result was either empty or turned out to be in another city. Queer nightlife here is a party at a mixed venue, not a place you can walk into on any Friday.
The best example is Beat House, a pub and club on the Corredor Cultural that opened in 2022 and runs Wednesday to Saturday. It hosted the official after-party of the 2025 Pride with drag performances, according to TCM Notícia. That's the only LGBTQ+ event we could confirm there, so we don't list it as a gay venue. Check its social media before you assume a queer crowd.
The Corredor Cultural itself, the strip along Avenida Rio Branco by the Teatro Municipal Dix-Huit Rosado, is where the city goes out. It's where Pride gathered in 2025 and where you're most likely to find a mixed crowd on a weekend night. Local drag artists who performed at the 2025 Pride, including Amber Hudson, Bellatrix, Renata Falcão and Dona Liberdade, are worth following if you want to know when a queer party is on.

There's no gay sauna, cruising club or adult cinema in Mossoró that we could confirm, and we don't list any outdoor cruising areas. The nearest coast is at Tibau and Areia Branca, about 40 to 50 km away. They're family beaches with holiday homes, not gay beaches. One trap when you search: "Tibau do Sul" is Pipa, a beach town near Natal, 300-odd km away. Pipa is promoted to LGBTQ+ travellers, but it has nothing to do with Tibau on the Mossoró coast.
Mossoró's Pride has a long gap in the middle. The Parada Gay de Mossoró, organised by the NGO STV Brasil, reached its sixth edition in September 2010, and the organisers said the 2009 parade drew about 17,000 people. Then it stopped.
It came back as the 7th Parada do Orgulho LGBTQIAPN+ de Mossoró, themed "Memória, Resistência e Futuro", on 7 and 8 November 2025. Friday was an academic day at UFERSA, the federal university. On Saturday people gathered from 4 pm on the square of the Teatro Municipal Dix-Huit Rosado, with a creative-economy fair and performances, marched along Avenida Rio Branco from 6 pm and ended at the Beat House after-party. The 2025 edition was paid for by a state and federal culture grant (Política Nacional Aldir Blanc), so another edition isn't guaranteed. We couldn't find any 2026 or 2027 date when we checked in October 2026. If it happens again, November is the month to watch.

The Ambulatório LGBTI+ run by the State University of Rio Grande do Norte (UERN) opened in October 2019 and was the first LGBTI+ health clinic in the state. It grew out of UERN's family-health residency, working with local LGBTI+ groups and the city. Its team includes psychology, nursing, family medicine, dentistry, social work and nutrition, and it offers hormone therapy for trans people. A 2022 study described it running one evening a week in the UERN nursing faculty building, but we couldn't confirm current hours, so contact UERN before you go.
The city runs an HIV testing and counselling centre (CTA) and a specialist care service (SAE), and Hospital Rafael Fernandes, the state infectious-disease hospital in Mossoró, was one of the first two PrEP sites in Rio Grande do Norte. We couldn't confirm street addresses for the CTA, so ask at any health post (UBS). The state's dedicated trans health clinic and the municipal LGBT+ citizenship centre are both in Natal, not here.
Local politics is moving slowly. In July 2025 councillor Plúvia Oliveira filed bills for a municipal Pride day, an LGBTI+ health policy and fines for businesses that discriminate. When we checked, we couldn't confirm that any of them had passed. The courts are already enforcing the national rules: in June 2026 a Mossoró judge sentenced a man to two years for transphobic insults against a trans co-worker at a city bar.
Mossoró isn't a beach town, so hotels are spread through the city rather than on one strip. The Centro is the most practical base if you want to walk to the Corredor Cultural, the theatre and the Estação das Artes. Nova Betânia, the newer upscale district with the main shopping centre, has the larger business hotels. Thermas Hotel, on the north side of town, is built around natural hot-spring pools. See our hotel list for options; none of them is a gay hotel, and none needs to be.

Mossoró's airport (MVF) lost its scheduled flights in August 2025. Azul brought back a twice-weekly Recife route in September 2026, and LATAM has announced São Paulo–Guarulhos flights from June 2027, subject to approvals. For most visitors the practical gateways are still Natal and Fortaleza. Buses from Fortaleza take about 3 hours 45 minutes, with frequent departures, and from Natal about 4 hours 40 minutes to 5 hours. In town, use Uber or 99 at night.
Mossoró is hot all year, with highs of 32 to 34 °C. Most of the rain falls between February and May, and the second half of the year is very dry.
Mossoró Cidade Junina is the city's big event, one of the largest São João festivals in the North-East: 6 to 27 June in 2026, with the main stage at the Estação das Artes Elizeu Ventania and big trio parties on the Corredor Cultural. We found no LGBTQ+ programming in it, but it's a mass street party and a mixed crowd is part of the deal. The Auto da Liberdade, staged every year since 1999, re-enacts Mossoró's early abolition of slavery in 1883, the women's revolt and the town's resistance to Lampião's gang, around 30 September.
The law is on your side, and Rio Grande do Norte requires anti-discrimination signs in bars. The risk is the same as in most of inland Brazil: violence falls hardest on trans women and travestis, and ANTRA's annual dossier records trans murders in the state most years. Be discreet with public affection outside the Corredor Cultural, use apps rather than walking at night, and meet dating-app contacts in public first.
Bar gay: gay bar. Balada: night out or club. Parada: Pride parade. Sapatão: lesbian, reclaimed. Bicha: gay man, reclaimed (rude from a stranger). Travesti: trans woman, a word the community uses with pride. Pegação: cruising.
Gay bars: none confirmed
Gay sauna: none
Cruising: none listed
Pride: 7th edition 7–8 November 2025; next date not announced
Health: UERN Ambulatório LGBTI+, hormone therapy
Nearest scenes: Natal (about 270 km by road), Fortaleza (about 210 km)
Airport: MVF, Azul to Recife twice a week
Not one we could confirm in October 2026. No gay directory lists a venue here, and local news didn't turn one up either. Queer nights happen at mixed venues: the official after-party of the 2025 Pride, with drag performances, was at Beat House on the Corredor Cultural. For a gay bar scene, Natal and Fortaleza are the nearest options.
The 7th Parada do Orgulho LGBTQIAPN+ de Mossoró took place on 7 and 8 November 2025, its first edition in almost 15 years. Friday was an academic day at UFERSA, and on Saturday the march went along Avenida Rio Branco from the Teatro Dix-Huit Rosado square. No 2026 or 2027 date had been announced when we checked in October 2026.
No. We couldn't find a gay sauna, cruising club or adult cinema in Mossoró, and we don't list outdoor cruising areas. The nearest gay saunas are in Natal and Fortaleza.
No. The nearest beaches, Tibau and Areia Branca, are family holiday beaches about 40–50 km away. Don't confuse Tibau with Tibau do Sul, the town that includes Pipa, which is near Natal, over 300 km away.
The UERN Ambulatório LGBTI+, opened in 2019, was the first LGBTI+ clinic in Rio Grande do Norte and offers hormone therapy and multi-professional care. A 2022 study said it ran one evening a week in the UERN nursing faculty, so check current hours with UERN. PrEP and PEP are available in the city through the public health network, including Hospital Rafael Fernandes.
Brazilian law protects you: marriage since 2013, homophobia punished as a crime since 2019, and Rio Grande do Norte requires anti-discrimination signs in bars. In June 2026 a Mossoró court sentenced a man to two years for transphobic insults. Violence falls hardest on trans women, so use Uber or 99 at night and meet app dates in public first.
