Workroom

Workroom is Porto Alegre's best-known drag bar. It was founded in Cidade Baixa in 2017, and its owners described it in 2024 as "a drag bar in a conservative city". After the May 2024 flood reached its door, it moved to the historic Cine-Theatro Ypiranga building, later operated on Avenida Cristóvão Colombo, and then spent a period as a travelling party around Rio Grande do Sul after a dispute with its landlord. In August 2026 Jornal do Comércio reported that Workroom, under new management, would take over the former Circo Bar at Rua Vicente da Fontoura 1619. The venue holds about 160 people, with a bar on the ground floor that is free to enter and a stage upstairs for paid drag, stand-up and circus shows. The owners planned a pink-and-red redesign to match the brand, and house queens include Cassandra Calabouço. By November 2026 the same paper described Workroom at this address as an active LGBTQIAPN+ cultural and entertainment space. On Monday 2 November 2026 it hosted a free Halloween edition of "Teach Me As a Drag", an English-conversation night led by drag teachers, from 17:00 with an online sign-up. The crowd is mixed across the queer spectrum, with plenty of drag fans and allies. Show nights and ticket prices change weekly and are posted on Instagram (@workroombar). The street is on the Rio Branco/Bela Vista side of town, east of the centre, so take an app car from Cidade Baixa and back.
