Camp David is not a regular gay bar, and first-timers should know the deal before walking in: this is a men-only nude cruise bar - the only legal one of its kind in South Africa - and the nude policy is enforced. You pay at the door (around R170-200 these days), lock everything including your phone in a locker, and that is rather the point of the place. Inside the unassuming Waterglen Shopping Mall unit you will find a well-stocked bar, darkrooms, slings, glory holes, private rooms, video lounges and proper social space. Staff hand out PrEP information at reception, and regulars rate them among the most accommodating in Pretoria nightlife. The bar has been running for over two decades and earned its stripes the hard way: police raided it three times in 2006 and arrested fourteen men, the charges were dropped, the raids were later ruled illegal and the police apologised. It has operated openly ever since. Busiest Friday and Saturday nights from about 8pm, and around month-end paydays; the crowd is genuinely multi-generational. Two honest caveats from recent reviews: indoor smoking is heavy, and the door price keeps creeping up. Open Tuesday to Thursday noon to 2am, Friday and Saturday noon to 4am, Sunday 3pm to 2am; closed Mondays.
