Burgers Park (The Block)

Burgers Park, the oldest proclaimed park in Pretoria (opened 1892) in the city centre near Van der Walt Street, has long been referenced in gay cruising guides as a discreet daytime meeting spot known locally as 'The Block'. South Africa's constitution fully protects LGBTQ+ people, but standard urban caution applies: this is a public park, activity is by nature discreet and ambiguous rather than officially sanctioned, and - as with any South African city-centre park - avoid the area after dark, keep valuables out of sight, and be aware of the general street-crime risk in the CBD. Ride-share (Uber/Bolt) is the safest way to arrive and leave.
