Cheap and clean, 10 min walk to Newtown!

I can happily recommend the Cambridge Lodge to anybody travelling on a budget who is looking for a simple, clean, affordable and fairly quiet place which is still close ro the action. The location of this guest house/boarding house is surprisingly good. Situated in a pleasant neighborhood, the Stanmore train station is a mere 3-4 minutes walk away, to Enmore Street it's little over 5 mins. Enmore Street is a an alternative nightlife hotspot with loads of restaurants and quite a number of really cool bars. Taking the train from Stanmore to Circular Bay, the No 1 tourist destination takes probably 20 mins and costs something like 2-3 AUD (the price of a water bottle in a supermarket). Anybody who has travelled extensively will be shocked by prices for food, drink and accommodatiin in Sydney. Camparing it with anything else I found on booking.com, Cambridge Lodge offers a lot for roughly 60 Eur per night: single/double room with sink and fridge in the room shared clean bathroom down the hall. Fan was not working but I didn't need it. It will not be easy to find a better deal in town.

I booked the room via Booking.com and couldn’t make it because the airline cancelled the flight and there’s no available option to fly out at that time. Upon receiving the news, I immediately cancelled the room and tried to contact the hotel asking for a partial refund. The hotel kept sending automated message for check-in instruction and no response on my refund request. On call, they said I need to work with Booking since they get charged a commission fee whether I show up or not. While Booking customer service said to me they already escalated to the hotel and no response from the hotel. I’m disappointed in the way the hotel deal with this.

The good: Private rooms are spacious, good location near the station, has private fridge. Shared kitchen is supplied with essentials. The bad: Weird "baby powder" like smell everywhere. I noticed some cockroaches, doors bang very loudly and can be heard inside rooms, bed is very bouncy and not comfortable. Only fans in rooms, no air-conditioning unit.

We had the best time at Cambridge Lodge! The rooms were clean and amenities were great. The lady working at reception was wonderful. We got an upgrade as my partner had a job interview in the evening. The next day we were in a bit of a rush so they even did our laundry for us. Would definitely stay here again. Just a short walk to the shops and the bus stop. Thank you again☺️

Came to stay with a few doubts after reading some other reviews, but I really needed a place near an event I was seeing that was affordable. Arrived at the lodge, and the lady at check-in was so lovely to me and the friend I was staying with! I originally booked a twin room, but when we arrived, neither of the fans in the room worked. We spoke to the woman at check-in, and she was really nice about it all and ended up just moving us to the family room for free. The place looked reasonably clean besides a few places where the wallpaper was peeling a little, but you kind of get what you pay for. I saw a lot of reviews on cockroaches, but I didn't see a single one (I have a bit of a fear of them, so I was on the lookout). There were a few roaches out on the street at night, but none in the actual lodge. The outdoor area and kitchen were quite cute, and I ended up spending lots of time out there. It's relatively quiet, which was much appreciated. The rooms are a bit plain, but there is a fridge and a mirror as well as a few charging ports around the room and outside. Overall I would stay there again and would definitely recommend it to friends. The only complaint I would have was that the drinks vending machine outside didn't seem to be working, but there's also a convenience store right around the corner, so no stress there.

Absolutely perfect. The place was very clean, the bathrooms had a lot of privacy and the kitchen was deeply cleaned daily. The customer service was very kind and on point, I would gladly reccomend it.

I had an amazing stay at Cambridge Lodge. Just arrived from Belgium and all the staff were absolute stars. Friendly, helpful and offering amazing service. If i get back to Sydney i’m coming back for sure. Would recommend!

The price is affordable.
