Spend a little more money on something decent instead of being disappointed from start to finish. I booked this hotel through Booking.com. For weeks, I received no answers to any of my questions about the accommodation. I wrote five times, called three times, and no one answered. Frustrated, I canceled the booking. Then, after Booking.com put pressure on them, the hotel refused to refund my money, instead of admitting their mistake. It was nothing but trouble, arguments, and stress. Save yourself the trouble! Their email responses were completely unprofessional, and they were argumentative, even when Booking.com had requested them to reply. I really wonder what kind of people are working there... certainly not customer service representatives.
So, after almost canceling my booking from last year (when the overall rating was significantly better) due to all the bad reviews, I'm glad we gave the Hotel Continental a chance after all. Therefore, this review is a bit more detailed 😄 Location: Excellent! Right in the city center, pedestrian zone. Parking isn't allowed on-site, but you can drive directly to the hotel for loading and unloading. There's a paid parking garage nearby. Check-in: I opted against the machine at the entrance and went with the friendly gentleman at reception! Quick and easy, he wrote down all the PINs (entrance door, room door, breakfast) and provided all the essential information. Very friendly and helpful – excellent! The elevator takes you up to the 4th floor. Room: Large, spacious, with its own (beautiful!) bathroom including a shower. Bed – large, comfortable beds, and again, relatively new models. What I missed: a refrigerator and air conditioning, but you already know that if you've looked at the hotel online. However, by opening both windows, we were able to cool the room to a comfortable temperature, even at night. The downside: the street sweepers were very busy and loud early in the morning, so we quickly closed the windows and went back to sleep. Breakfast: typical continental fare – a very nice lady had already set a breakfast table for us. All the muesli we wanted, boiled eggs, bread rolls, and pre-packaged items – plus very tasty coffee and water. On top of that, there were apples and pre-packaged hot chocolate for our Rock im Park trip – so thoughtful! 😄 So, our expectations were met! A charming, old hotel with really friendly staff and everything you need for a weekend getaway right in the heart of the city center! 😄🤘🏻
The best thing about the hotel was its location. My room only had cold water, both in the evening and in the morning. The check-in process was extremely difficult. Unfortunately, another room was completely missing a toilet and shower. The whole atmosphere felt rather dingy. This hotel should only be booked as a last resort and when spending a lot of money.
Unfortunately, a very disappointing experience. Two single rooms with private showers and toilets were booked and confirmed. However, on site, there was only one such room. The second room only had a sink in the room; the toilets were located in the hallway, and there was no shower on the entire floor. There were two toilets for the whole floor, one of which could not be locked. Furthermore, the photos on Booking.com bore no resemblance to the rooms actually provided. The entire building appeared neglected: a broken window, broken or missing lamps, a damaged trash can, a missing sink plug, etc. The handling of the complaint was particularly unpleasant. Initially, they said it was "our own fault" because we had booked the "lowest category." The fact that the booking confirmation explicitly guaranteed rooms with private bathrooms and toilets was apparently irrelevant. Later, the responsibility was shifted to Booking.com. The overall impression was also negative: no clearly marked reception, check-in via a machine, and a strong, stale smell of cigarettes and marijuana in the breakfast area. The only positive thing I can say is that the bed linens and towels were clean. Absolutely not recommended.
The service leaves much to be desired, as the staff act like you're booking a tent. First of all, I got a new, clean room, then discovered a huge cockroach. I went downstairs to leave a review, apparently this is normal (we were in January), it just happens sometimes, the street seems to have a general problem. I was moved to a different room, and then the next night at 11 PM, there was a knock on the door. Someone just walked in, even though the room was locked! They couldn't manage to move him or even realize in the system that the room had been booked twice. I went to leave a review the next morning, simply because I was so tired the night before, and the person just didn't believe me. "It couldn't have happened," "It's impossible," etc. "It's not true." It was truly catastrophic. How can they accuse me of not being true? I will never set foot in such a shabby establishment again.
Computer check-in. The on-site contact person was unhelpful and rather indifferent when questions arose. The building, rooms, and interior are very dated. The hallways smell strongly of smoke. There was no private bathroom in the room, even though it was booked. There was a toilet in the hallway. Okay for one night.
