Stopped by Balzac's in the Distillery District during a snowstorm when a lot of the other shops were closed. Glad they were open! The space is beautiful—historic brick, high ceilings, and cozy vibes. We got the S’mores Hot Chocolate ($10), topped with whipped cream, toasted marshmallow, graham cracker, and chocolate drizzle. It’s was very sweet, and the sugary flavour overpowered the chocolate itself. Upstairs seating was a bit distracting with someone on speakerphone FaceTiming. It’s a shame because the café itself is gorgeous, but the experience depends a lot on other customers being considerate. Overall, nice to have a spot open during the storm, but the drink and noisy environment made it less enjoyable than it could’ve been.
The cheddar-and-chive scone at Balzac’s was a standout — fluffy rather than dense, and genuinely well made. The latte and salted-caramel latte were good overall, though the first sip on both leaned a bit acidic. Service was fine, but even as the next in line we waited longer than expected. Still, it’s a pleasant spot to visit, and a nice place to stop if you’re in the Distillery District, especially for a solid pastry and a classic Balzac’s atmosphere.
For those visiting the Distillery, a great place for a good coffee is definitely Balzac. The establishment boasts a rustic, stylish atmosphere with a calm and welcoming atmosphere. The service is excellent, with a very polite and attentive staff who are always ready to help. For customers with disabilities, unfortunately, the space does not have a Braille menu, but the staff is always ready to assist. Furthermore, the location does not have an automatic door opening system, and because it is a heavy door, assistance is required. In addition to the dining room, the café also has a patio for the spring and summer months. The prices are affordable, and it is worth a visit.
Great location, but only medium coffee. This shop could be so much more! Friendly team, but chairs & table design without stringent concept and love to detail. Foam is poor, coffee medium, Barista should be trained as machine is good.
Beautiful historic charm throughout this commercial space offering a cool place to enjoy a delicious a beverage! Tried the new Premier Protein Peppermint Mocha and it was delicious. Hot beverage on a cold evening at the Distillery Market!
