National AIDS Memorial Grove

This is a place for remembrance and healing. It is THE national memorial, and is kept in great tradition through the efforts of the National AIDS Memorial group, and the San Francisco City Parks and Recreation. It is a place to truly start reaching.

I planned my trip to SF to include a visit to the memorial Grove, planned my airplane ticket around being able to visit in the morning. I was a club kid in the '90s and have many to mourn. You can imagine my surprise when I arrived to discover that I was not allowed to enter the garden, that on actual World AIDS Day, instead of the 5am - 10pm access that is posted, access was limited to ONLY TWO HOURS. I arrived at 830am, and discover I can't go in until after I'm due at the Airport. Why? Because they were cleaning up from a fancy party that just had to be at the Grove and get in the way of actual use of the Grove. Reminds me of the days when we were still dying in the Tenderloin when the Castro began to live. It was incredibly disheartening and Elitist. But don't get in the way of the big cute party , am I right ?!?!? 🙄

Great place that may respect to those that have passed of AIDS. Very peaceful. Great place to walk and enjoy the beauty of nature or just relax.
