About this place Chalong Sauna

Located in the Rawai area of Phuket, this gay sauna provides a classic wellness and social experience popular with LGBTQ+ visitors to Thailand's largest island. Like saunas in this category throughout Phuket, it's a laid-back venue where you can enjoy steam rooms, hot facilities, and a welcoming atmosphere away from the bustle of the main tourist strips. Saunas in Phuket tend to attract a mix of local Thai men and international travelers seeking an authentic, low-key social space. The setting is casual and discreet, making it a good option if you're looking to relax, meet people, and experience local gay culture beyond beach clubs and bars. Whether you're visiting during high season or the quieter months, these venues maintain a steady, friendly vibe. The venue is situated in Rawai, a quieter residential area of Phuket that's still accessible from the main tourist zones. It's worth checking opening hours before visiting, as operating times can vary seasonally. As with any sauna visit, basic etiquette and respect for other guests helps maintain the welcoming environment. If you're new to saunas or prefer other LGBTQ+ venues, Phuket has plenty of bars, clubs, and beach hangouts to explore as well.

I highly recommend this place... I came here on a recommendation. I didn't use the sauna, but I go for massages almost every day—in my opinion, the best I've ever had. The ladies have a wonderful approach 😉

Update: price increase: 150 sauna + 400 massage It's heartwarming. The herbal sauna (more like a hamam) combined with the massage is incredibly relaxing. It's 100 for the sauna + 300 for the optional massage, but I highly recommend it. Make sure to also get some lemon tea. They add honey, and after a couple of uses, it's absolutely delicious. I happened to be on the ice, and the rugged Scandinavians were happily dunking among the ice floes. I felt a bit squeamish about climbing into the communal tub. This place isn't for the squeamish or those who appreciate luxury. That's why I took off one star. Those who've been going for a while say the service was better under the previous owner, but now her daughter is in charge, and she's not as customer-focused.

My husband and I have been going for the second year in a row. The Thai-style sauna is great, the steam is delicious and smells like tom yum, but the massage is just awful. Today we had a really bad massage after which my husband's neck and head hurt a lot, and I have a headache because they pressed really hard on my temples when they massaged my head, and the body massage was extremely unprofessional, as if a store clerk had come out for a day to work as a masseuse. Please hire normal staff, pay attention to my review!

I was there about ten years ago and twice in the last two weeks. It seems to have become more "civilized." There's a toilet and two showers. Despite the lack of amenities, it's a nice place. When the temperature gauge at the entrance to the steam room reads 45°C (104°F), you can stay there for a long time (IMHO). When it was 51°C, it was challenging. At 54.7°C, it was a tough survival experience. We were there both times in March/April, 26th from 11am. There were few or no people. Unfortunately, there was no ice in the vat this year. The massage was quite good. It's more of a hammam than a sauna. It's not a stove, but a steam generator.

We liked it, and the massage afterwards was also good.

The sauna was great, fragrant with fresh herbs, and very relaxing with ice water.
