I won’t stay there ever again. Search a bit more. You’ll be glad you did. I arrived as a Best Western Rewards member. For the $150+ per night charge, the 1/2 sized tiny bottle of water seemed rather cheap. The host explained that the continental “breakfast” would be served in the very small lobby-less than 10 x 10 feet. When I got to it the next morning, it seemed like something better served at a cheap motel, not a Best Western. The room was clean, and the bathroom was nice. The shower was as well. That shine wore off fairly quickly when I noticed the spongy floor tile in the main room, the tilted lamp on the desk, and the refrigerator that leaned to one side. It was the security door stop that I could have pulled out with one hand that sealed the negative deal. As little maintenance as possible is put in to this place. ‘Seems like they just want your $$$.
The staff at this hotel rocks. Truly. My stay of 5 nights included 3 in which I could not use electricity (for religious reasons) thus having trouble with the key-card door. Not a problem for these guys. The staff was more than willing and eager to let me into my room when I needed access day or night. Their service was a true highlight of my trip. The location is fantastic and very walkable to various parts of Berkeley. You can walk to both the downtown and North Berkeley BART. The rooms are a bit worn but it's mostly aesthetic. I did not see it as anything that would prevent me from staying again. The bathroom was recently re-done making for a pleasant shower experience. The fan seems automated based on movement. The bed was comfortable and I appreciated having a sizeable desk, chair, *and* couch. Would definitely stay again.
Very few hotels near the Berkeley campus that are reasonably priced. I found this one but for what they charge, you would think the room would be in better shape. The walls were dirty, chipped paint, shutters broken, duvet cover would not stay on, and ripped carpet. On a positive note, the attendant onsite was very helpful letting my guest check in ahead of my arrival. They are also walking distance to restaurants, bars and the campus. Would I stay here in the future? Yes, due to limited options.
This was my first time checking into a hotel using a kiosk, and I initially preferred a traditional in-person check-in experience. However, Sky, the live agent assisting me remotely, made the process smooth and easy from start to finish. She was friendly, patient, and guided me through every step of the check-in process. Thanks to her excellent customer service, what could have been a frustrating experience turned out to be a very positive one. Thank you, Sky!
We had a horrible experience. Starting with when we first checked in keeping in mind that we had to drive 10 hours up to Berkeley and we were exhausted. They were already giving us attitude when we wanted to cancel our room. And said we could get 100% refunded if our room was sold and telling us that the room will most likely be sold. So we had to keep going back and forth with them ultimately leading to them saying all their rooms had to be sold before we could get a refund. And when we asked for the manager so we could try and come to a compromise. They refused us and said there’s nothing they could do. We could either stay or pay the fee or wait until someone buys all the rooms. So we gave in and the room was extremely insanitary. With bugs and hairs and stains every corner of the room and the restrooms which was extremely disturbing.
