The film Happy Together marked Kar-Wai Wong's first real entry into the international film scene when he won the Best Director award at the Cannes Film Festival in 1997. The story of a homosexual couple whose loving and seemingly solid relationship falls apart without either of them knowing why, shocked with its openness and at the same time fascinated with its original way of storytelling, ostentatiously ignoring any known rules.
