Faroe Pride
About This Event
Faroe Pride is held in Tórshavn every 27 July, the day before Ólavsøka, the national festival, when the capital is already full of people from every island. The organiser is LGBT+ Føroyar, founded in 2011.
The history is short and political. Small marches took place in the mid-2000s; the 2007 one drew about 130 marchers and a couple of hundred listeners, per PinkNews. Then nothing until LGBT+ Føroyar revived the parade in 2012, when more than 5,000 people turned out by Queerty's count, in a country of about 54,000. Same-sex marriage followed in 2017.
The day runs to a set pattern: a warm-up by Tórsvøllur, the national football stadium, from 15:00 with face paint, flags and the Havnar Hornorkestur brass band, then the parade at 16:00 and a free concert in the centre. In 2026 the concert at Vaglið featured Silvurdrongur, Sakaris and Guðrið Hansdóttir, with a speech by the priest Ólavur Eysturdal, and the afterparty was at Náttarklubbin. A Pride week led into it from 19 July.
The date is fixed by tradition, but the 2027 programme hadn't been published when we checked. Book beds early, because Ólavsøka fills Tórshavn.
