About this place Le Plana

Le Plana is the anchor of Bordeaux's gay social scene, occupying a prime terrace position on Place de la Victoire — one of the city's most animated student squares, surrounded by bars and at the junction of two tram lines. The bar has been a gay institution since the 1990s and is busy from late afternoon onwards. The large terrace fills rapidly on warm evenings; inside, a DJ plays from Thursday onwards. The crowd is young and student-heavy on weekdays; at weekends it broadens to include the wider LGBTQ+ community across Bordeaux and the Gironde. Le Plana is also the informal gathering point for Pride organisation and community announcements.

This is a place with history. The restaurant manager was kind enough to show us old pictures of the place and tell us a bit about the story. Apparently, it used to be more of a music & party place and the previous customers still come here, but now for to have food and remember the good memories. We had 2 dinner menus, steak & fries, and fish & beans here. My menu included deviled eggs, hake fish & rice, and chocolate mousse. I also tried beef carpaccio, shrimps, and crème caramel from my friends. The deviled eggs were too mustardy for me (I like mustard but it didn’t really have any other taste). The carpaccio was good. Shrimps were pretty tasty too. Crème caramel was my favourite. The mousse was also good though. I enjoyed the fish & rice as well.

The entrecote was butter-soft. The bavette had muscle tissue and was a bit too tough. Tip: make sure you have sharp knives to cut the meat. That was very difficult now. Excellent service.
