About this place Mama Shelter Bordeaux

Mama Shelter Bordeaux is the local outpost of the Philippe Starck-designed lifestyle hotel group, and it carries the brand's characteristic playfulness: bold pop-art interiors, irreverent humour in the room decor, and a genuinely inclusive staff culture. The 97-room hotel sits in a pedestrianised street near Place de la Victoire, placing guests at the literal doorstep of Bordeaux's gay bar circuit. The rooftop bar and terrace is one of the city's best sundown addresses. The Mama Shelter chain is widely cited in LGBTQ+ travel media as a consistently welcoming group; the Bordeaux property is no exception.

The room was very basic. Ours overlooked a fire escape (see photo) that lit up every time someone passed by, all night long. The shower room was basic and not functional; the shower head kept falling off, and there was no furniture to put your belongings on. I do not recommend this hotel, especially considering the price. You'll find much better rooms elsewhere. There's no priority access to the rooftop terrace for hotel guests, so you might as well stay somewhere else and come back at least for the restaurant.

-No pizza until September. It's the restaurant's signature dish. -No fries. The fryer has been out of order for several weeks. -No non-alcoholic beer. Out of stock for several months. -No prior notice. We only found out once we were seated. Unbelievable!!! What a shame, we loved going there!!! Oh well, there are other restaurants in Bordeaux. On the other hand, the staff is always very friendly... thank you to them, it's not their fault.

A credit card imprint is required to make a reservation, but informing customers that the kitchen is closed seems like an option. After waiting for over 30 minutes, we had to seek an explanation ourselves, only to learn that we wouldn't be able to have dinner after all. Thanks for this unique experience: booking a restaurant only to end up having to search for somewhere else to eat.

It's a shame it's not possible to give zero stars. It's currently 10 PM. We had booked for 9:30 PM to celebrate our friend's birthday. We were a group of four and simply wanted to have dinner. After a 30-minute wait, the waiter finally came to inform us that the only hot dish on the menu would not be available after all, because the kitchen wasn't working. In short, only cold dishes were being served. The question is simple: why not inform customers when they make their reservation? We could have made other arrangements instead of wasting our evening. To top it all off, it's freezing cold and only the rooftop is open. An incomprehensible experience from start to finish.

Such a fun hotel and perfect for a girl’s trip! Do not miss a drink on the rooftop- the views and dj are worth it! Centrally located and surprisingly quiet-

We came with friends for a drink and to enjoy the view of Bordeaux! Luckily, there were two extremely kind gentlemen at reception (big thanks to them!). The waiters/waitresses at the rooftop were very annoyed by our visit... Completely unprofessional! They just didn't want to work! For a hotel like yours, this is extremely disappointing! Luckily, the cocktails were good... I certainly won't be going back for a drink...
