Gay Bordeaux: A Compact, Growing Scene
Bordeaux is a stunner — a UNESCO World Heritage city of wide limestone boulevards along the Garonne, two hours from Paris by TGV. It has no single gay village. Instead the scene is small but genuine, spread across the historic centre: a cluster of bars around Saint-Paul and Pey-Berland, near the cathedral, with the late-night clubbing over towards Saint-Michel and Place de la Victoire.
Gay Bars
Coco Loko (3 Rue Duffour Dubergier), near the cathedral, is a friendly gay bar known for its drag nights and easy-going crowd — a reliable first stop. Philippe Bar Queer (31 Rue Bouquiere) is an explicitly queer, inclusive safe-space bar with a small dance floor in Saint-Paul. Le QG de Monbadon (43 Rue Lafaurie de Monbadon) draws an inclusive, libertine-leaning mixed crowd, while Bar A2 (35 Rue Borie, Chartrons) is a lesbian-run queer bar and one of the few women-centred venues in town.
Cruising and Late Nights
Buster (34 Rue de Cursol), formerly Le Code, is the city's main gay and cruising bar, aimed at an adult male crowd. Ultra Klubs (Place Andre Meunier, Saint-Michel) is the flagship gay nightclub — a roughly 500-capacity room with a drag stage that runs from midnight until dawn on weekends. For a dedicated cruising club, Traxx (38 bis Rue Arnaud Miqueu) is a men-only sex club on two levels.
Saunas
Crunch Sauna (62 Cours Anatole France) is Bordeaux's flagship gay men's sauna, open daily — the successor to the old Sauna Thiers, which burned down in 2022. Sauna Le Saint (39 Rue Saint-Joseph) is the daytime option.
Community and Pride
The Centre LGBTI+ Le Girofard (21 Rue du Loup) is the anchor of the local scene — a community centre offering support and events, and the organiser of Bordeaux Pride. The Marche des Fiertes de Bordeaux takes place in late May; the 2026 edition, on 30 May, marks its 30th anniversary, gathering at Place des Quinconces before a march and festival. In early April, Cinemarges — the city's queer and feminist film festival — screens at Cinema Utopia.
Wine, Food and Culture
The Cite du Vin wine museum is one of France's best museum experiences, and the Miroir d'eau at Place de la Bourse is among Europe's most photographed public spaces. Head to the Marche des Capucins for morning coffee and excellent Atlantic oysters.
Practical Information
Getting there: Bordeaux-Merignac Airport (BOD) is 12km out; the TGV reaches Paris Montparnasse in just over two hours. The four-line tram network covers the historic centre at EUR 1.70 a ride.
When to go: May to October. Late May is ideal for Pride and mild weather before the summer heat.
