Following the Footsteps of Significant Bremer Women in the Old Town

The tour “Cosmopolitan, Consistent, and Clever” by the Bremen Women’s Museum on Sunday, April 27, at 11 a.m. leads in the footsteps of significant Bremer women in the Old Town. This marks the beginning of a series that will lead to “FrauenOrte” (Women’s Places) in various city districts over the next three months. On May 25, Steintor will follow, and on June 29, the newly designed tour through Neustadt will be offered for the first time.

Women have significantly shaped the political, literary, and social life in Bremen. The “FrauenOrte” series aims to make important women in the individual city districts visible. Who were they? What did they achieve? Where did they work?

The tour through the Old Town leads to the historical sites of the work and life of significant Bremer women. Women from different social classes and eras will be presented. For example, Bremen’s first women’s representative, Ursel Kerstein, and the widow Metta Cordes, who became self-employed as a vegetable dealer out of necessity, as well as women who advocated for women’s rights, education, and their art, individually or in associations.

The participation fee for the tour is 15 Euros (12 Euros reduced) per person. Registrations are accepted at office@bremer-frauenmuseum.de.
