ACTING / PUPPET THEATER / MUSIC: With "Irmgard Keun – The Cellophane Girl," the Bremen Puppet Theater "Mensch, Puppe!" in cooperation with the Arbeitnehmerkammer Bremen presents an evening about the writer Irmgard Keun (1905-1982), which brings the famous urban novel to the stage and also tells about the author's life. Irmgard Keun was an important, if not the most important, female literary voice of the Weimar Republic and, with the bestseller "Das Kunstseidene Mädchen" (The Cellophane Girl), wrote a standard work of New Objectivity that is still read in schools today. In it, Keun addresses the role of women in the Weimar Republic while also critically examining the developing consumer and media culture and the widening gap between rich and poor. Puppeteer Jeannette Luft and actress Anna Stieblich combine Irmgard Keun's great novel with autobiographical texts by the author and many contemporary chansons, thus presenting an informative and exciting evening about Irmgard Keun and her time.
