The festival opening is dedicated to the life and work of the world-renowned Polish violinist Wanda Wiłkomirska, who was closely connected with Poland, France, and Germany. An exhibition and a concert evening will be inaugurated, commemorating her musical legacy and her commitment to freedom and democracy. The event combines music, culture of remembrance, and European understanding in the anniversary year of the city partnership Bremen–Gdańsk.

The German-Polish Society Bremen and the Wanda Wiłkomirska Cultural Association e.V. invite you to immerse yourself in the life of a world-famous violinist at the Institut français Bremen with the exhibition "Wanda Wiłkomirska – Between Music and Freedom," whose musical vernissage takes place on August 27, 2026.

Wanda Wiłkomirska (1929–2018) was one of the most important and internationally known violinists of the 20th century. At a time when artists from Eastern Bloc countries rarely had the opportunity to perform worldwide, she concertized on all continents and in the most important concert halls in the world. She worked with the most renowned conductors of her time and was an outstanding interpreter, especially of the works of Polish composers.
