With the format The L-Words, an extraordinary literary evening is created that weaves together past and present: A living author meets a voice from history. The texts of a deceased writer are brought back to life by a speaker or actress – and enter into a thrilling dialogue with the present.
The focus is on lesbian authors and literary works with lesbian main characters – their stories, their perspectives, and their often-overlooked contribution to literary history. The L-Words is dedicated to the beginnings of lesbian writing, the first published texts, and their cultural and societal significance. The historical context in which these works were created is also illuminated: times of invisibility, social exclusion, but also courageous expression and quiet rebellion.
The evening creates space for reflection and contextualization: How have representations of lesbian identities changed over time? Which themes, conflicts, and forms of expression run through the decades – and what has shifted? The juxtaposition of voices from then and today opens up new perspectives on authenticity, self-empowerment, and literary development.
The L-Words is simultaneously a reading, a discussion, and a cultural exploration.
