Romantik Hotel Deutsches Haus

Blasted by the snowstorm, I was kindly offered shelter early in the morning. While my room was being prepared, I took the opportunity to stroll through the old town. I received a very warm welcome; staff took the time for informative conversations, and my requests were addressed and accommodated. I enjoyed the peace and quiet of the house both day and night. A special touch: they helped me dig my snowed-in car out of the parking lot.

A very nice, venerable hotel with friendly service. However, the food on Boxing Day 2025 did not live up to the expectations of a 4-star hotel. The chosen dishes, Sauerbraten with red cabbage and dumplings, didn't even remotely deserve the name (roast beef); the meat was tough and dry, and the red cabbage wasn't served properly warm.

Breakfast wasn't exactly amazing, that's for sure. It could be improved, but otherwise everything was okay. 👍

Looks great from the outside, but it's a mess inside. The bathroom is straight out of the 60s, with a shower that had to be stepped into and the water wouldn't drain. The heating didn't work at night when it was 8 degrees Celsius outside. It also looked like the place hadn't been dusted in ages. The breakfast was far from 4-star quality, especially considering the limited selection. You had to ask for orange juice, but unfortunately, it wasn't available.

We had dinner there. Friendly service, okay. Unfortunately, almost nothing remains of the bourgeois, refined ambiance of yesteryear. Sterile kitchen lamps, cheap-looking short curtains, and awkwardly hung pictures dispel any hint of romance. The paper frieze with the "wine wisdom" is peeling off the wall, and the decorative knick-knacks do nothing to improve the overall impression. How much better a few opulent chandeliers, dark red velvet curtains (the wall rosettes are still there), and stylish handcrafted items would suit this wonderful historic building. Try dining at the two-person table shown in the picture. If they were to clear out the disused staircase, the food would taste even better. Nothing can be said about the hotel itself, although the key safes on the exterior wall are a nuisance. Read the other reviews if you're planning to stay here.

The hotel, with its fantastic location in the heart of Pirna, is showing its age! The rooms aren't exactly romantic—they're simply old! The beds, due to their design, aren't suitable for people over 1.80m tall, and the mattresses are worn out. The parking situation leaves much to be desired! The €12 breakfast is also rather mediocre; orange juice is only available upon special request, and I sent the fruit salad straight back! The TV in the room looks like it was installed shortly after the advent of CRT television. All in all, the stay was quite eventful.

Ancient, without internet

The Romantik Hotel Deutsches Haus was a disappointing experience. The rooms were neither particularly clean nor heated. Despite mentioning it several times, our room remained cold. The problem persisted even on the second day. The breakfast is not worth the price and leaves much to be desired in terms of quality and variety. The staff wasn't particularly friendly, but they weren't unfriendly either. The only positive aspects are the central location in Pirna and the nicely decorated hallways and corridors. I honestly don't see how this is a 4-star hotel.

Just about okay for one night... The bed doesn't have a slatted frame, but rather a net-like mesh on which the mattress rests. Don't expect any comfort; lying down is exhausting. I woke up with back pain; the bed is too soft. If the romantic atmosphere is limited to the historic building, while the furnishings are neglected, then in my opinion, that's not enough for a four-star hotel. It's a shame, really, because the location on the edge of the old town is quite convenient for sightseeing.
