"Des Dichters Fremde" revolves around states of searching. In the exhibition, heads repeatedly appear – seen from behind, introspective, abstract, yet with great human presence. Some appear as clearly recognizable figures, others dissolve almost completely into color, structure, and gesture. Hair-like structures permeate many of the paintings, condensing into vibrant fields of lines or getting lost in painterly traces. These works are contrasted by paintings composed primarily of vertical or diagonal forms. They are reminiscent of script characters, but refuse to be clearly legible. Precisely in their indeterminacy, the works unfold a quiet emotional intensity and offer space for one's own associations and memories. Robert Janitz was born in 1962 in Alsfeld, Germany, and now lives and works mainly in Mexico City.
