About This Event

Athens Pride has been held since 2005 and takes place in Syntagma Square, opposite the Greek Parliament. That location gives it a political edge. Greece legalized same-sex marriage in 2024, but Athens Pride's speeches now focus on hate crime and violence. The 2018 killing of activist Zak Kostopoulos (Zackie Oh) in central Athens still comes up every year.

The square fills from midday with information stalls, DJs, family activities and talks. Groups gather in front of Parliament at 18:00, and the march leaves at 19:00 behind a 30-metre rainbow flag, with drum groups along the route. It comes back to Syntagma for an evening concert. It's free. Come after the worst of the afternoon heat, and look for the nights out in Gazi afterwards.

The 2026 edition was on Saturday, June 13, under the slogan "Σε Αφορά" ("It concerns you"). Athens mayor Haris Doukas spoke, and Amnesty International used the day to launch an observatory for anti-LGBTQ+ hate crimes in Greece. There was a row beforehand when STASY, the Athens metro operator, refused to put up Athens Pride posters in the metro. Iefimerida reported thousands of marchers but gave no count, so we can't confirm the 40,000 figure. The 2027 date hadn't been announced when we checked. The march is usually held on a Saturday in early-to-mid June.
