About this place Cala La Pasta

Cala La Pasta is an inexpensive pasta place at Via dei Tribunali 179-180, on the main street of the Naples historic centre among the pizzerias and churches. It is a mainstream restaurant listed as gay-friendly, not a gay venue. The format is quick and casual, built around fresh pasta dishes at low prices. With over 5,600 Google reviews averaging 4.6, it is heavily visited, so expect queues at peak lunch and dinner times. Via dei Tribunali is crowded and lively day and night. Keep an eye on bags, as you would anywhere in central Naples.

We ate pasta: baccala, vesuvio, and ragú bianco. All dishes were large and very tasty.

Came for lunch on a very hot, humid day and queued outside a long time. Partway through, my son started feeling unwell from the heat. I stepped just inside to get him water from the dispenser by the entrance; and gave a cup of water for my son. the owner came and told me I wasn’t allowed. I explained my son was about to faint; but he didn’t offer any help. We went back outside . The women queuing behind us were visibly shocked at the lack of basic humanity. We’d already invested so much time waiting (and finding a taxi from there wouldn’t have been quick either), so we stayed. The food itself wasn’t special, and the orecchiette seemed undercooked (see the picture)I couldn’t finish the plate. Honestly, I could have forgiven that. What I can’t forgive is the complete lack of humanity from the owner. A child feeling unwell from heat and being scolded for a cup of water is not something a restaurant should ever get away with, rules or no rules!! Humanity first!
