About this place Bacaro da Pampo

A bacaro is Venice's form of bar: a standing wine bar serving cicchetti (Venetian tapas), ombra (a small glass of wine) and conversation. Bacaro da Pampo in Castello is one of the most LGBTQ+-welcoming traditional bacari in the city — frequented by local gay men who prefer the bacaro format (cheap, quick, unpretentious) to the more formal cocktail bar environment. Campo General Morosi in Castello is a small, quiet campo well off the tourist routes, which means the bar retains an authentically Venetian character. Come for a glass of Soave and the cicchetti plate, stay for the company of people who actually live in Venice year-round.

Excellent food outside the tourist zone of the old town! Quiet and very good value for money!

Quiet suburb in Venice, with locals enjoying Sunday lunch. Relaxed afternoon while having great food, reasonably priced. Highly recommended

We made a reservation at Osteria da Pampo based on the excellent reviews and its convenient location near the Biennale. Making a reservation through their website is highly recommended. We ordered the Antipasto misto del Pampo, followed by fresh mussels and a casserole from the daily specials menu, as well as the Gran fritto misto del Pampo (we ate there twice!). Everything was absolutely delicious, accompanied by a selection of local wines. The service was quick and attentive; we felt very comfortable and will definitely return!

The food was delicious and of good quality, so I congratulate the kitchen team. However, the service was among the worst I've received during my trip. We chose this restaurant because it's away from the tourist area, and we were expecting a more authentic and pleasant experience, but unfortunately, the opposite was true. The three waiters who served us were unfriendly and made us feel uncomfortable on several occasions. We noticed a clear difference in the service other diners received. For example, we weren't offered water or bread like other tables, and we ended up serving ourselves. Furthermore, when we tried to communicate in English, we received unfriendly responses or annoyed gestures, even though the staff spoke English with other customers. I'm Mexican, and I travel with great respect for every place I visit, so this experience surprised and disappointed me. Hospitality is an important part of any restaurant, and in this case, it fell far short of expectations. The food deserves a good rating, but the staff's attitude ruined a large part of the experience. There was also an issue with my friend's dessert because they took it away without asking, even though the glass was half full. They took a dessert without asking—so many details. I can't recommend this place to those looking to feel well taken care of and fully enjoy their visit to Venice. It's a shame, because the food is truly excellent.
