About the event

“Kikker Kiest Beyond the Ball, because this captivating new baroque-wave musical firmly questions the norms of our time.” - Programmer Jolie Go on a ratgirl summer in Versailles. A true story that is so exciting it will give you ruby red ears. Mesdames et Messieurs, bienvenue! Welcome to the sixteen eighties – the pink revolution of the French Baroque. All night we dance at the court of none other than Louis XIV. But let's be honest: the Sun King has written enough history, so he only gets a meager supporting role in this libretto. We present Julie d’Aubigny, better known as Madame de Maupin – opera diva, duelist, and rebel. This queen of coloratura fights against the stifling social norms and classes of her time with her voice and sword. And conquers the hearts of many men and women. This queer icon avant la lettre claims her place in history today. We go way beyond the ball!
