The atmosphere is relaxed in the way that port-city bars often are — the character of Gdańsk's old seafaring cosmopolitanism seems to have seeped into the venue's DNA, producing a bar that is curious and open rather than guarded or sub-culturally exclusive. Barka is particularly good in summer when the outdoor seating along the waterfront becomes one of the best drinking spots in the city: the Baltic air, the boat traffic, and the extraordinary backdrop of Gdańsk's Hanseatic old town across the water make the outdoor terrace genuinely memorable.
