About this place Barka

Barka is a mixed queer bar that draws from the broader Gdańsk arts and progressive community as well as the specifically LGBTQ+ scene. The clientele is younger and more gender-diverse than Euforia, with lesbians, non-binary people, queer allies, and bisexual groups alongside gay men, reflecting the venue's deliberately inclusive identity. The atmosphere is relaxed in the way that port-city bars often are — the character of Gdańsk's old seafaring cosmopolitanism seems to have seeped into the venue's DNA, producing a bar that is curious and open rather than guarded or sub-culturally exclusive. Barka is particularly good in summer when the outdoor seating along the waterfront becomes one of the best drinking spots in the city: the Baltic air, the boat traffic, and the extraordinary backdrop of Gdańsk's Hanseatic old town across the water make the outdoor terrace genuinely memorable.

I am warning all customers, especially allergy sufferers, against this restaurant (visit on May 19, table 13, waitress named L.). A raw cucumber was hidden in the dish (cod with coleslaw). It was not listed in the menu as an allergen, which violates EU Regulation No. 1169/2011. I have a severe, medically confirmed allergy and unknowingly swallowed this ingredient. What happened next was absolute lawlessness and a total lack of basic human decency. I immediately took a strong emergency medication (Dithiaden), which has a powerful sedative effect and suppresses the nervous system. I informed the staff that I was at risk of anaphylactic shock and death. Due to the medication, I began losing my strength and the ability to defend myself. The waitress shamelessly exploited my critical state and lethargy. Instead of providing first aid or calling an ambulance, she aggressively demanded payment, blocked us from leaving to see a doctor, and forced my husband to pay for the dish that almost killed me. She only cared about profit, not human life. This behavior constitutes a serious failure to render emergency aid.You ruined our honeymoon, and the sheer insolence and arrogance towards a person in a life-threatening condition is shocking. The case has been properly documented (I possess the receipt and photos of the dish with the hidden allergen). Avoid this place at all costs!

The most wonderful fresh fish!!! Yesterday I went to a restaurant that was also highly rated on Tripadvisor, but the fish was frozen 🤦🏻‍♀️ in Barka, the decor is not very good, but the food and service are really first class!!! Everything went smoothly, quickly and in a very pleasant and professional atmosphere. I will definitely come back...;) thanks to all the staff and the kitchen, and especially to the management for creating such a wonderful team... he must have walked around the room with a pleasant smile on his face. I keep my fingers crossed for further successes 💪🫶

Great food, great and supportive staff , really friendly atmosphere. The Fish was fresh, delicious and prepared with naturalna ingredients, you can rally notice that. Even my kids, who usually eat only French fries this time tried fish from all of us. We were there in Jan, so not the peak season, but the place was full, we were lucky as a bigger group just finished their meal. Highly recommended!

The first impression may mislead. Hadn't it be for TA I wouldn't even go inside. However, encouraged by good reviews, I did try it out and it exceeded my expectations for good fish restaurant. Friendly and competent staff, reasonable prices and delicious fish plates. In fact we decided to come back next day to try out other dishes. I give a strong 4. If they had use raw potatoes for French frites (instead of using a frozen product) I would give them a 5. Secret hint: 'Japanese herring' as a starter, also: comes good with a small shot of cold vodka.

Barka is not located at the beach but worth finding. Don't get biased by its outside look. Interior is also not all rage although perfectly CLEAN. Barka got reactivated in June 2012 after many years. Likely the owner may have tried to bring back its original style. In Barka they serve almost any kind of food however, they specialise in fish and seafood. We paid several visits and everything we tried was delicious and well prepared. Fish and seafood most likely steamed or grilled but not fried, same with vegetables. Chief cook must be a professional. Beach food is nowhere near. Someone from the town had recommended the Fish Soup - Hunter Style and we found it indeed interesting. Prices acceptable. It is a restaurant not fast-food but still affordable. I absolutely recommend.
