Grapes & Bites, at 81 Rua do Norte, is a gay restaurant in Lisbon that’s really about the wine.
The place has a cellar with nearly 1,000 different bottles. That's a lot of wine. You'll find Portuguese stuff, sure, but also plenty from elsewhere. It’s the kind of spot where you could spend a whole evening just getting through the list.
Lisbon’s gay dining scene is bigger than it used to be, and places like this are a good sign of that. They're making a point of being welcoming and comfortable for LGBTQ+ travelers. The vibe here is relaxed, friendly. You could bring a group or just settle in by yourself and watch the room. The staff actually knows their stuff when it comes to the wine, which helps when you're faced with that many choices.
The restaurant is in Príncipe Real, which is one of Lisbon’s most open-minded neighborhoods. Plenty of gay bars, other restaurants, and shops are just a short walk away. It’s a solid choice if you want a casual dinner, or if you plan on really getting into that wine list for a while.

Absolutely delicious dinner and superb service!
The owner has changed. The staff were very nice and friendly, but it would probably be better to continue the restaurant authentically under a new label. It's simply not the Grapes and Bites we used to know.
Food was so good. Service was so good too. Very friendly. I loved the atmosphere. Food was also very delicious.
Amazing!
Really good food and wonderful staff! A special highlight goes to Rosie, who looked after us throughout the evening. Her warmth, great sense of humour, and incredibly positive energy truly stood out and made a real difference to our dining experience. We’d also like to mention the gentleman at the entrance, whose name we didn’t catch, for his friendly welcome and great first impression. Nice singer as well!!
Super happy and enthusiastic staff! Rosie is awesome! My cod meal was amazing. The wine was sooo good, but that’s not surprising because “Portugal”. I would come back.
