About this place Rua Cândido dos Reis — Porto Gay Bar Strip

Rua Cândido dos Reis is a 200-metre street in Porto's Baixa district, running between Rua das Carmelitas and Rua Trindade Coelho. Since the mid-2000s it has been Porto's central gay bar strip — the city's densest concentration of queer nightlife and the natural pedestrian anchor for Porto Pride Week. The street's queer character emerged around 2005 with the opening of Conceptual (still operating at Cândido dos Reis 88) as the first openly-marketed gay bar on the street. By 2010 the strip held roughly a dozen queer or queer-friendly venues; by 2020, it was formally recognised by the Câmara Municipal do Porto as an LGBT+ commercial district with signage and Pride-week programming. Anchor venues today include Conceptual, Zoom Bar, Café Lusitano, and Pride Bar. The scale is smaller than Barcelona's Gayxample or Madrid's Chueca but the concentration is comparable — the street's bars share sidewalks and terraces in a way that creates a single social scene rather than isolated venues. Weekend nights draw a mixed Porto and international crowd (northern Iberia's queer weekend crowd from Braga, Vigo, and Galicia' rural interior). Peak crowd 22:00-02:00. Free, open 24/7 as public street; individual bars charge cover only for specific events. Aliados metro is a two-minute walk. On the standard Porto queer heritage day this is the natural evening anchor — combine with the Praça da Batalha (Porto Pride starting point, 400 metres east) or a walk south to Ribeira's waterfront for a broader Porto walking evening.

Women usually don't pay an entrance fee, the security guards are super friendly, and if any man is inappropriate with a woman, the guards are very quick to help and deal with the matter. It's my favorite bar.

The security guard's response at the door was, "There are already too many men, it's not going to get any worse."

Violent security guard and suspicious place. I was going in when my friend was prevented from entering and I didn't understand why... I politely asked the security guard how to get into the bar, where to buy things, etc. He literally pushed me and said he didn't have to give an explanation. It was very strange. There's something very wrong with this place.

The security guard at the Queen Club establishment was extremely attentive, polite, and friendly with all customers, always available for anything.

Went to enter the club and bartender refused immediately. I asked why and he wouldnt respond or let me know why, just pushed me back. Incredibly rude and disrespectful. The club nearby called The Wall was amazing though, would recommend anybody going there instead.

When it takes a bartender 10 minutes to make 2 gin tonics, maybe she should change her profession… :(

It's a great place to listen to and dance to music with friends or solo 💃 and of course have a drink. I highly recommend it 👌
