El regreso de las Ugarte, by Arantzazu Viteri Garay: A dystopian and feminist fantasy about a false paradise and the memory of a forbidden magic
About the event
Martina Ugarte is the youngest of three sisters and the only one born without any powers, except for a strange ability: always knowing when it's 10:22 PM. Sixteen years after fleeing Kalkahue, the sisters are forced to return to that secret community, where each person is classified according to the usefulness of their gift.
Raised far from its rules, the Ugarte sisters do not fit into a system that values bodies and decides in advance the place each person should occupy. As they try to understand why they had to return, they will uncover a history marked by persecuted women, family secrets, and a memory that refuses to disappear.
El regreso de las Ugarte is a dystopian fantasy with mystery and agile pacing that speaks of identity, power, inheritance, and freedom.
