Birmingham's Gay Village on Hurst Street is one of the UK's most established LGBTQ+ neighborhoods. It's a compact strip of bars, clubs, and venues in the Ladywood area, right near the Chinese Quarter. You can walk it end-to-end, but there's enough going on to make an evening interesting.
The Hurst Street Scene
- The Nightingale Club (18 Kent Street) is one of the UK's oldest gay clubs, running for over four decades. It's an institution. Expect drag shows, themed nights, and a big dance floor.
- The Village Inn (152 Hurst Street) calls itself "Birmingham's biggest and best gay venue for live entertainment and cabaret." It's open seven days a week, and the cabaret is genuinely good.
- Eden (121 Sherlock Street) has won awards. Happy hour is Monday–Friday from 2–7pm. There's a pool table, a garden, a smoking area, and a marquee for bigger events.
- Missing Bar (48 Bromsgrove Street) is a party bar in the Village. It's become a more high-energy option in recent years.
- Boltz Club (40 Lower Essex Street) is a gay cruise and fetish spot. It has a dark room, cinema, and dedicated facilities. Men only.

Birmingham Pride
Birmingham Pride happens on the late May bank holiday weekend. It's one of the UK's biggest Pride events outside London, bringing tens of thousands to the Gay Village and nearby streets. The parade goes through the city center; the Village itself has stages, food, and entertainment. Book your accommodation well in advance.
⚠ Getting there:
Birmingham New Street station is a 15-minute walk from the Gay Village, or grab a taxi. The city is 1h20 from London Euston by Avanti West Coast. The Village is safe and well-lit; just be aware of your surroundings like you would in any city.
